Cecilia Adler felt as if she'd been struck by lightning. The blood in her veins seemed to freeze.
'He knew all along, didn't he?'
'That's why he approached me.'
It took her a long moment to find her voice. "You're not." She turned and ran.
Titus Shaw had prepared for her to deny him, but hearing her reject him so bluntly left a bitter taste in his mouth. He chased after her and blocked her path. "Cecilia, I've been looking for your mother for so many years. I didn't know she had you, and I certainly didn't know she had already..."
His throat tightened as he spoke.
Cecilia couldn't hear a single word. She just wanted to leave.
The farther, the better.
"I will not accept you as my father. Stop following me." She pushed him away, crossed the street, and kept walking.
She didn't know how far she went.
When she stopped and looked back...
Titus Shaw was still following, keeping a certain distance from her.
She couldn't help but feel a surge of hatred.
