The moment Brianna Hudson hit the ground, her scream pierced everyone's ears.
Alice was a full-grown mare, and a large one at that. Brianna had been thrown off while the horse was out of control, so the force of the impact was undeniable.
Jessie Sterling was relatively close. She had already dismounted from Allen and was running toward Brianna.
In the stands, Lynn Jennings and Cheryl Stuart were also startled. The accident happened in an instant. It wasn't until Brianna's agonized scream reached them that Lynn seemed to snap out of her daze and hurry down.
Brianna's fall was serious. A broken bone, at the very least.
Jessie and Lynn also went to the hospital.
In the car, Lynn took the wheel this time, ordering Jessie to sit in the passenger seat.
"Are you really okay?" Lynn asked.
Jessie was exasperated. She had already answered this question no less than ten times on the way, but Lynn was still worried and kept asking.
