As he drew closer, the clean scent of soap reached her. His breath ghosted across her face, and Qin Mei's body instantly tensed. Her breathing grew heavy.
Jie Jingchen's gaze moved from her delicate features to her eyelashes. They were long and thick, curling up slightly like tiny fans. He lifted his hand and began toying with them.
"Jie Jingchen, what do you think you're doing?" Qin Mei couldn't stand it any longer. Her eyes snapped open, then immediately squeezed shut again as she let out a pained cry. "Ah!"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," Jie Jingchen apologized, hasty and sincere, his amber eyes filled with worry. "I didn't mean to. Did I hurt your eye?"
He had been toying with her eyelashes, and when she suddenly opened her eyes, he accidentally poked her.
Qin Mei wasn't faking it. Jie Jingchen really had poked her in the eye, and it hurt badly. She clutched her left eye, careful not to rub it, as tears began to stream out.
