Early morning was the time for school. Along the way, while you wouldn't see students in uniforms chasing each other to the county high school like in later generations, there were still plenty of them laughing and talking.

The county high school was actually what the local old-timers were used to calling the "old schoolhouse." Its history was said to trace back to the eighteenth century, giving it a legacy of over a hundred years.

Although the campus had been renovated and rebuilt many times since its founding, it possessed an intangible heritage that one could feel just by being there.

Unlike most schools, the county high school's name wasn't just carved on a placard hanging beside the main gate; it was also etched into a decorative yellow waxstone rockery nearby.

Now, however, the rockery looked a bit weathered. The powerful, vigorous calligraphy carved into it was missing the coat of vermilion paint it would have after future restorations.
