It was an hour later when Shen Weimin arrived at the Bai family's home. He had first stopped by the unit yard to chat with Xu Dageng and Xu Ergen and arrange for a horse cart for tomorrow.
By then, Bai Chenggang, Su Zhao'an, and Xu Sanhu had nearly polished off a bottle of baijiu. The plates of pork belly, blood sausage, and stewed pickled cabbage were also almost gone.
"We were starting to think you weren't coming."
"I already ate dinner when I got back," Shen Weimin said, stopping Bai Chenggang, who was about to get off the kang to fetch more dishes. "I was at the unit yard for a bit, but I rushed straight over here afterward."
"I knew you must've been held up by something," Xu Sanhu said, scooting over to make room and immediately starting to tattle. "He just bet that you'd forgotten your brothers now that you have a wife."
