In a panic, Lucy Summers smacked Nathaniel Lynch's arm. "Quickly, apologize to Mrs. Shaw properly," she urged.
Nathaniel Lynch lowered his head, his expression humble and, upon closer inspection, even a little pathetic. "I am truly sorry, President Shaw, Mrs. Shaw. It's my fault for being so blind. I've been reflecting on my actions the entire way here."
His face was filled with remorse. "It's all my fault for listening to Renee Jennings's nonsense. She can't stand Mrs. Shaw and goaded me into doing something... I—I just wasn't thinking straight!"
At the mention of Renee Jennings, a look of disgust crossed Lucy Summers's face. She chided Nathaniel, "Nathaniel, you're just too soft. That's how she was able to fool you.
