The International Free Fighting Competition is held once every four years. It features separate brackets organized by national Combat Power Levels. Contestants below the Martial Arts Master level are only allowed to compete in the same level's bracket once.
Because advancing in Combat Power becomes increasingly difficult at higher levels, contestants from smaller countries might not advance a major level for years. Consequently, the higher the level, the fewer the participants. This allows those at the Martial Arts Master level and above to compete multiple times.
Dean Morgan had already competed in the Great Martial Master Level tournament three years ago but lost to a contestant from Crestland. This caused the Morgan Family's standing in the Martial Alliance to drop significantly.
