All intelligence organizations within Japan had sprung into action. Consulates from every nation were scrambling for information, and Ambassador Wen was no exception. He was making one call after another, trying to verify what he could with pro-Donghua factions in Japan and even communicating with the consulates of friendly nations.
COUGH COUGH COUGH!
After finishing another call, Ambassador Wen put down the phone and couldn't stop himself from coughing.
The stress of the past few days, combined with feeling unwell, had made his voice hoarse.
"Mr. Ambassador, I've prepared some pear soup for you. You should drink some to soothe your throat."
A young secretary entered the room, carrying a bowl of pear soup which he placed on Ambassador Wen's desk.
"Thank you, Xiaoliu. What's the situation on your end? Any new information?"
Ambassador Wen asked Secretary Liu, pinching the bridge of his nose.
