Worried about her younger brother, Yan Ziruo woke up very early.
She glanced at the clock on her nightstand—5:21 in the morning. She threw on a jacket, got out of bed, left the master bedroom, and walked over to Yan Feifan's bedroom.
Yan Ziruo gently pushed open the door. In the dim light, she saw her brother sleeping soundly in his bed.
A wave of relief washed over her.
Just as Yan Ziruo was closing the door, something in her peripheral vision caught her eye.
The clothes, neatly folded in the laundry basket, were stained with dark brown spots of various sizes.
Yan Ziruo walked into the bedroom, bent down, picked up a piece of clothing from the basket, and examined it, even giving it a sniff.
The dark brown or black splatters and the faint metallic odor confirmed her suspicion: it was blood.
Yan Ziruo shook the garment open and found it was covered in bloodstains.
Anxious, she roughly shook Yan Feifan awake.
"Feifan, what's with all the blood on these clothes?"
