Chapter 5: The First Step
Some journeys begin with small steps—
but those very steps can change an entire life.
The next morning,
Shijui woke up early.
There was a slight nervousness in her heart,
but along with it came a quiet strength—
as if something inside her had finally shifted.
Today was her interview.
She stood in front of the mirror
and looked at herself.
The same face.
The same eyes.
But this time—
there was less fear in them,
and a little more belief.
Her mother silently handed her a cup of tea.
"Everything will be alright," she said.
Shijui smiled—
and this time, it was real.
She stepped out of the house.
The roads were the same,
the crowd was the same,
but today she felt—
she belonged in this world too.
Outside the interview office,
she paused for a moment.
She took a deep breath.
Then softly said to herself—
"You can do this."
As she walked in,
her heart began to race.
Questions were asked—
some easy,
some difficult.
But this time,
Shijui didn't run away.
She answered every question—
not just to be correct,
but to prove something to herself.
The interview ended.
She walked out—
a little tired,
but lighter inside.
She didn't know
whether she would get the job or not.
But she knew one thing—
today, she did not abandon herself.
She returned home.
Her mother met her at the door.
"How did it go?"
Shijui replied softly,
"It went well… I tried."
There was pride in her mother's eyes.
That night,
Shijui opened her diary.
For a moment, she stared at the blank pages.
Then she wrote—
"Today, I took a step despite my fear.
Maybe this is what winning really means—
moving forward even when you're afraid of losing."
She closed the pen,
and for the first time,
felt a quiet sense of pride in herself.
Her phone rang again.
Her heart skipped a beat.
But this time—
she wasn't afraid.
Because now she understood—
life is not just about waiting.
Life…
is a journey of finding yourself.
And Shijui
had finally started walking on that path.
