Chapter 12 - Chapter 12 - Introducing the First Eye Doctor

That's quite a good idea.

Lion has cheered up and is waiting for my instructions.

For starters, I have no idea where to begin. I can't even remember the last time I tried daydreaming. To my horror, I realized that I was 'vanilla' in my previous world. I forgot to enjoy myself and only thought about pessimistic scenarios.

I was too realistic.

Maybe this is my chance at a new life and a change of personality...

By starting to have fun.

With that shift in thinking, I already have an idea of where to begin.

....

Since Ghost travels a lot, I decided to make him a telescope with Lion's help. I know it's not original, but I decided to modify it a bit, since we are living in a world with an abundance of magic.

After several minutes, Lion managed to magically make the world's first telescope. This telescope could be carried around, allowing him to see distant objects as far as the moon, as well as tiny objects, like a microscope.

Therefore, there's no need to approach something and risk his safety.

Ghost is overjoyed with the invention and even Lion seems satisfied with what he made. They took turns using the telescope and for several minutes, they forgot about me.

I don't mind, though, as I am completely drained, but I somehow feel satisfied.

I don't remember what happened next since I fell asleep on Pinky. He somehow made his branches into a sort of cradle and it was so comfortable.

....

When I woke up, I was covered with one of Lion's cloaks. I sat up and looked around the room. I didn't see Lion inside.

I stretched my arms and yawned. Pinky must have been happy with the attention, as it made a soft squealing noise.

So cute!

I stood up and tried to find a way out of the room. Seeing a small opening in the wall and guessing it was an exit, I gathered my courage and went through it.

When I opened my eyes, the first thing I saw was the soft light of a room I didn't recognize.

Where am I?

My heart raced for a second before I noticed the bath and a massive closet.

Wow.. Lion really thought of everything..

After a long, relaxing soak in the tub,I stood before the open closet. It was overflowing with every kind of garment imaginable.

Okay, let's see what we have here...

Hmm..

My fingers brushed against different fabrics until I found something light and flowing.

Ooh.. Ancient Greek style... yeah.. let's try a chiton.

I spent some time draping the fabric just right, imitating the way women used to dress in the old stories. I pulled my hair back into a simple ponytail, keeping it practical yet elegant.

There...that feels right.

I turned and caught my reflection in a large mirror nearby.

Heh.. Lion must have known I'd want to see this.

I looked at the stranger in the mirror, draped in green, hair neat, looking surprisingly composed.

Not bad.

...

I looked for another portal and stepped through it.

Now, I'm outside the castle in what appears to be a garden.

I walked toward the wall surrounding the property and looked down, only to realize the castle is floating high in the sky. Despite the height, I could see an assortment of buildings and mountains that reach even higher.

The suns are still bright and high, so I guess it must be around mid-morning.

It feels strange not knowing the exact time.

I explored the garden and saw all sorts of vines and plants laden with fruit.

Some were growing in a way that reminded me of hydroponic farming back on earth. I tried one of the fruits and to my surprise, it was incredibly sweet.

Still feeling hungry, I reached for another, but I felt a hand firmly stop me before I could take any more.

With an embarrassed look, Lion told me that the fruits I was eating were actually meant to help with mating.

Is he kidding me right now?!!

I felt my face turn bright red and stood there, unable to move.

Clearing his throat, Lion handed me a small, berry-like fruit that tasted like a cross between a mango and a strawberry.

I ate one and was surprised to find that I felt completely full, as if I had just eaten several full servings of food.

And it was delicious!

.....

This time, Lion had his hair tied back in a ponytail and wore his usual jewelry.

He looked incredibly attractive.

He asked if I wanted to go somewhere with him, and I agreed. I was eager to see more of this world.

It turns out he was shopping for various supplies needed for his magic and I didn't mind accompanying him. In fact, I enjoyed looking at the different items and the various creatures around us.

He asked me if I wanted anything, but I declined since I didn't know the purpose of the items.

He looked so disappointed that I absentmindedly blurted out that I wanted something to eat.

His ears perked up instantly. He took my hand and we floated together toward another building.

.....

The building was filled with all sorts of creatures eating various types of food. He told me to wait in a corner while he approached a creature that looked like a giant, one-eyed goat.

Some of the creatures were holding what appeared to be...

Ice cream?

That's a surprise.

The ice cream looked as though it had been painted with every color imaginable and splashed with glitter and tiny berries.

After several minutes, Lion handed me an ice cream of my own. I took a bite and to my surprise, it tasted...

Odd.

Unlike the ice cream we have on Earth, this 'ice cream' was warm and had a jelly-like texture. It tasted like a warm soup that had solid-like texture. I wanted to throw it away, but Lion was watching me with such excited eyes that I forced myself to finish the whole thing.

Eww..

Gross!

I just hope I don't get indigestion.

....

We went to another building where Lion seemed to be on good terms with the owner, an elderly creature that looked like a clock with eyes.

I assumed it was elderly because it moved so slowly and squinted at everything Lion tried to buy. It moved so sluggishly that I could even see Lion's eyes twitching with annoyance.

The final straw came when the creature picked up an object and moved it close to its eyes to squint at it, only to realize it had grabbed the wrong item.

Pssst!

I signaled for Lion to approach me.

He sighed and walked over, but as I whispered my idea to him, his expression turned to one of interest.

Using his magic, he manifested an object and lo and behold, the world's first pair of eyeglasses.

He gave them to the shopkeeper, who immediately cheered up after putting them on. Though the creature still moved slowly, it no longer squinted or had to hold objects right up to its eyes to see.

The shopkeeper was so grateful that he gave us several items for free, including some gorgeous fabric that I could use to make more clothes.

....

On our way home, while riding in the flying canoe filled with all our shopping, Lion asked me how I knew what to give to the shopkeeper.

I was stunned.

How did I know?

To be honest, I just... kind of knew.

Back on Earth, I had to run several tests to properly diagnose a patient and give the right prescription.

Everything was about precision, charts, and data...

But here, I just felt what was needed. There were no tests to check the eye grade or the exact curvature of the lens. It seems like exact measurements don't matter in this world, just like age, time, or even distance.

It's like the logic of my old life is melting away....

You just have to think of a solution and not overthink it.

It was the same with the telescope Lion and I made.

I didn't have measurements for its length or the number of lenses required. It just appeared exactly how Ghost needed it.

Is the world responding to my thoughts, or am I finally learning to speak its language?

Suddenly, I found myself longing to do more.
