As Kael's understanding deepened, trust in him fractured. Several enclaves severed ties, refusing his aid. Others tried to capture him, hoping to harness his power.
One attempt ended in blood.
Kael refused to consume, even when attacked. He disarmed, restrained, fled, but the cost mounted.
The hunger screamed at him for his foolishness.
"You cannot save those who choose fear," the Witch said quietly.
Kael knew she was right.
He just hated what that meant.
