After leaving the church, Sona opened a teleportation circle rather than walking through the city. One after another, the members of both peerages stepped through the glowing magic formation before reappearing inside the Student Council room.
The moment the teleportation circle disappeared, the atmosphere relaxed ever so slightly.
Several members let out quiet sighs, finally free from the lingering discomfort caused by remaining inside consecrated ground for so long. Saji stretched his shoulders, while Akeno casually pulled out a chair and sat down. Even Koneko looked far more comfortable than she had been only moments earlier.
Sona walked behind her desk and had barely settled into her chair when Issei finally broke the silence.
"I still don't think we should've just left like that."
The room's attention shifted toward him.
"He basically admitted he isn't going to care about our rules," Issei continued, unable to hide the frustration in his voice. "After everything he did, we're just going to let him do whatever he wants?"
Sona remained silent for a moment before looking directly at him.
"If we applied your standard consistently, you would have been the first person I'd have disciplined."
The room fell quiet.
She adjusted her glasses before continuing in the same calm tone.
"Cleaning up after other people's mistakes has always been part of our responsibility. If I started treating everyone who created extra work for the Student Council as an enemy, we would have run out of allies a long time ago."
Without giving Issei a chance to respond, Sona reached for her phone and placed it on the desk.
"That discussion is over."
Her tone left no room for argument.
"We still have an incident affecting half the city to deal with, and unlike our conversation inside the church, this is something that can't wait."
She looked toward Rias.
"I'll handle the public side of the cleanup. The Student Council will take care of reports, witnesses, and anything that attracts unnecessary attention. I'd like your peerage to assist with identifying and modifying the memories of anyone who may have seen more than they should have."
Rias nodded without hesitation.
"We'll start immediately."
Satisfied, Sona looked around the room once more.
"The rest of you are dismissed. Rias and I will discuss the remaining details."
Although Issei still looked dissatisfied, there wasn't anything he could do. One by one, the others left the Student Council room, leaving only Sona and Rias behind to discuss how they would divide the remaining work.
The conversation lasted for nearly an hour.
By the time they finished, every major issue had been assigned. The Student Council would focus on minimizing the attention the incident had attracted among ordinary humans, while the Occult Research Club would quietly modify the memories of anyone who had witnessed more than they should have. They also agreed that someone would keep an eye on Ethan whenever possible to ensure another public incident didn't occur.
When Rias finally stepped out of the Student Council room, she found Issei still waiting in the hallway.
He was sitting against the wall with his head lowered, seemingly lost in thought.
Hearing the door open, he immediately looked up.
For just a brief moment, embarrassment crossed his face as he realized how childish he must have looked after complaining earlier. However, the expression disappeared almost instantly when Rias gave him a faint smile.
"Let's go."
"Right!"
Issei quickly got to his feet and followed after her.
The following days passed surprisingly peacefully.
Under the combined efforts of the Student Council and the Occult Research Club, any connection between the various incidents was gradually erased. The damaged roads were restored through magic, while the memories of anyone who had seen too much were subtly adjusted. Without any physical evidence or consistent eyewitness accounts, the remaining videos were dismissed as nothing more than footage of a reckless stunt, and public interest gradually faded.
By the time city officials began their inspections, there was little evidence remaining to suggest that anything supernatural had ever occurred.
Meanwhile, Sona kept a close eye on Ethan.
After learning that he was looking for skilled workers to continue repairing the abandoned church, she immediately arranged for several trusted individuals to complete the remaining structural repairs instead. It wasn't an act of generosity. She simply considered it far safer than allowing Ethan to wander around Kuoh trying to recruit people on his own and potentially creating another misunderstanding.
With each passing day, life in Kuoh slowly returned to its usual rhythm.
Then, just as everything seemed to have settled down, a formal letter bearing the crest of the House of Gremory arrived at the Occult Research Club.
Rias quietly accepted the envelope.
Without saying a word, she broke the seal and unfolded the letter.
The more she read, the more the gentle smile on her face gradually disappeared.
Akeno, who had been organizing documents nearby, immediately noticed the change in her expression.
"Rias?"
Rias remained silent for several moments before slowly folding the letter and placing it back inside the envelope.
"They'll be arriving in two days."
Akeno's expression immediately became more serious.
The others looked between the two of them in confusion, clearly unaware of what the conversation was about.
Rias lowered her gaze to the letter resting in her hands before looking toward Issei.
He frowned in confusion.
"President... who is arriving?"
Before Rias could answer, Akeno spoke quietly.
"It's about Lady Rias's fiancé. He'll be arriving in two days."
"...Fiancé?" Issei repeated in disbelief.
Rias closed her eyes for a brief moment.
As the day of her marriage drew closer, a growing sense of desperation had driven her to consider even the most absurd ideas.
One of them was simply claiming that she had fallen in love with someone else, hoping it would be enough to break off the engagement.
The thought disappeared almost as soon as it came.
It was a foolish idea.
The Phoenix family would never accept such an excuse. If anything, the unfortunate person she named would likely be killed before he ever had the chance to explain himself.
No matter how many possibilities she considered, every path led back to the same conclusion.
