Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

Many years ago, vampire and humans coexist peacefully and harmoniously. All of it changed when a human and a vampire fell in love with each other…a forbidden love. The two species are forbidden to fall for each other as it will disrupt nature's balance. But they stood firm and abandoned everything they have and will have, they fled and went into hiding.

It was considered a myth by many, but I know that was real, because I am the product of that forbidden relationship. Somehow my mom, a vampire, died when giving birth to me, and my dad a human raised me like a human being until he died due to old age.

Typically, humans have shorter life span than vampires. Around 80 years old for humans, and 10,000 years old for vampires, but I don't know for mixed breed like me.

Almost 800 years have passed since that forbidden love blossomed and gave life to me. Humans and vampires no longer coexist like they used to. Humans believed that vampires are monsters that needs to be annihilated while vampires believed that humans are greedy and forced their kin to submission. The two races then started the cold war of that lasted for many years—The Blood Arc War.

"Elyse!" Someone called me and I look up to see who it was. It's the village chief, today I will move to another continent so they won't know that I'm half-vampire. This is what I've been doing for the past 800 years of my life. I already travelled around the world except for the Dark Continent where the vampires lived.

"Are you sure you're really leaving?" One of the villagers said, and I smiled at them warmly and nodded.

"I have to. My family is already asking me to return home." They smiled sadly, I pretended to be sad, but I didn't really have any attachment to this village. I taught myself to stop attaching myself to anything especially humans, their death will only ruin me especially with their short lifespan.

They bid me goodbye and I gave them my last gift and left. I helped that small village grow from dust.

When I first arrived in that village, all I saw was ruined houses and malnourished folks who barely scraped by, so I decided to stay and help them regain their footing.

I don't know if vampires have the ability to heal wounds and diseases, but I slowly and secretly healed them, I don't know where this ability came from but I'm guessing it's from my vampire lineage.

I assisted in rebuilding their homes, and in planting crops for them to grow and nourish. For 15 years I stayed by their side and watch as they rise from dirt.

I told them I was 15 when I arrived in their village that's why my appearance didn't change much. In their eyes I'm still a 30 years old woman who helped them, what a joke, I'm already 789 years old.

I walked and walked and walked until I'm already very far from the village. My half-human and half-vampire blood gave me an advantage during the day because I don't get burned by the sunlight. I'm also not affected by any holy things and especially garlic, not of it has any effects on me because I'm half-human. My vampire blood allowed me to not sleep for days, gave me a pale complexion, jet black hair, black eyes, high nose bridge, pinkish lips, curvy body, and tall physique.

I don't get tired easily too, and can walk for how many days straight without any rest. I decided to walk until the nearest port because I intend to save my money for settling in a new village.

I drank ox blood before heading out in this journey and that'll definitely make me full for 2 full days. A good thing about being a mixed breed is that I can choose what I want to eat, and I don't have the carnivorous urge of a vampire to eat living beings. I can just eat human food and still survive, but I admit that blood does make me full longer than human food can.

The sun is setting soon and I know that's a good time for me to transform into my animal form and travel faster through the forest and arrive to the fort before the sun rises.

I hear some laughing from a distance, I immediately distinguish their way of talking and walking as a bandit-like behavior. They're looking for victims in this forest.

I jumped and landed on a branch of a big tree. I sat there and watch as the bandits pass by beneath me. As much as possible, I don't want to encounter anything that will cause me trouble.

I watch as they walk like they own the whole forest, while scanning their surroundings, looking for prey or even a victim. I let them pass by, as soon as they're already very far away from me, that's when I got down from the tree.

I continued my journey, walking slowly, enjoying the greenery around me, I decided to move to an urban area this time. I want to earn as much money as I can so that the next time I'll transfer to another place I won't have to work anymore and act as if I'm a rich merchant's daughter.

The sun is already replaced by the moon before I even realized it. I decided this is the best time to transform to my animal form and just fly until dawn. Strangely enough, according to human myths, a vampire can only have one animal form, but I can transform to any animal I want, meaning I have multiple animal forms.

I decided to turn into a bat, a common animal form for vampires. I watched the ground below me, I continued flying until I finally saw the ocean from afar. I decided to be a bat for one simple reason, I like their cute wings and they can sense living beings from very far away.

I landed on a nearby tree near the seashore. I sense my surrounding if their is any signs of human or vampire life—coast clear. I transformed to my human form again and walked towards the sea. How can I travel here to the continent of Aquaria. In this world there are five continents— Aquaria, Flamaria, Flordenia, Sky Land, and the infamous Dark Continent where vampires live.

I'm currently in the continent of Flordenia, I need to find a way to go to Aquaria. Maybe the deities heard my prayer when a blue ship passed by, now the only thing I need to do is to fly towards that ship unnoticed.

I transformed as a bat again and cautiously approached that ship. I can identify it as a ship from Aquaria because of its color, each continent is represented by one color, blue for Aquaria, red for Flamaria, white for the Sky Land, green for Flordenia, and black for the Dark Continent.

I slipped inside the ship unnoticed and transformed into my human form. This is a passsenger ship, allowing common folks from different continents to travel to another continent.

I blended well with the passengers, especially since I'm wearing the traditional attire of Flordenia, most passengers here are from Flordenia too. I can surely get off this ship unnoticed.

"Hi!" Someone from behind me talked. I turned around and looked at the person who spoke.

"Me?" I asked her as I looked around to see if she's talking to another person.

"Yes, you!" I can sense that she's around 17 years old.

"Why? Do you need something?" I asked her, based from her attire, she's from Aquaria.

"You're from Flordenia right?" She questioned me. I just nodded, she smiled.

"I've been looking for someone from Flordenia to be my partner. You see I own a flower shop back in Aquaria and sadly all my flowers are all of low quality." I raised an eyebrow, so she wants me to nourish and take care of her plants for her.

"And? Why should I agree to do all of that for you?" She raised her fingers, and smiled cheekily. I look around to see if there is someone who's going to pass by that will help me get away from this creep.

"I'll pay you 5 gold coins per week if you agree." That caught my attention, I look at her again.

"If you don't believe me, I can write a contract for you." She snapped her fingers and a paper appeared in front of me.

"Please read the terms and conditions." I look at the paper.

Employer-Employee Contract

The employer is obligated to pay 5 gold coins to his/her employee under any circumstances. He/she is also to give his/her employer a place to stay and provide him/her with his/her needs.

The employee is task to take care of his/her daily tasks assignerd by the employer. Negligence to fulfill his/her duties may result to a deduction on his/her pay.

This contract is valid until both parties agree to terminate it. Refusal to follow this contract may led to penalties as mandated by the law.

I bit my thumb and pressed it on the paper, and that girl also did the same.

"Nice working with you." She shaked my hand so I also did the same.

I guess I won't need to trouble myself anymore in finding a place to stay and a good occupation that pays good too.
