Chapter 91 - Chapter 90

The sky over Konoha was shrouded in the deep, silent ink of late night. It was well past midnight within the quiet grounds of the historic Senju compound.

In his quarters, Naruto Uzumaki lay on his futon, resting his body after the physical strain of the morning's training and the lively chatter of the afternoon picnic. The house was peaceful, enveloped in the heavy stillness that comes only in the darkest hours before dawn.

Without warning, Naruto's blue eyes snapped open.

There was no gradual awakening, no lingering grogginess. His instincts—honed by survival and tempered by the raw sensory network of his bloodline—instantly vaulted him into an absolute combat stance. He launched himself from his bed, his feet landing silently on the floorboards as a violent wave of golden chakra erupted around his frame.

SWOOSH!

In a flash of light, his hand gripped the hilt of his signature blade, the Nineth Cutter. The weapon hummed with lethal resonance as his golden aura condensed around the steel, sharpening its edge until the atmospheric pressure in the room began to crackle. His eyes narrowed, scanning every dark corner of the bedchamber.

"Who the hell is in here?!" Naruto roared, his voice cutting through the stillness like a war horn. "Show your face if you've got the guts to fight me!"

CRACKLE.

A faint, unnatural pressure registered near the sliding door of his bedchamber.

Naruto didn't hesitate. With a single, fluid strike of his katana, a concentrated arc of chakra-infused steel slashed through the air. The heavy wooden door was bisected instantly, its halves collapsing to the floor in a shower of splinters and torn paper.

"Brat! It is three o'clock in the morning!"

Tsunade Senju came charging down the hallway, her hair slightly disheveled and a look of absolute fury on her face. Behind her, Shizune was running at full tilt, her face pale with concern.

"I spent the entire day drowning in mountains of paperwork at the Hokage office!" Tsunade shouted, her knuckles whitening as she raised a fist. "I want my sleep!"

Just as Tsunade reached the threshold, the remnants of the severed door crumbled entirely.

"Are you completely out of your mind, Naruto?!" Tsunade snapped, her eyes widening as she took in the scene.

In the center of the ruined room, Naruto stood with his knees bent and his body angled, the tip of the Nine-Tails Cutter poised mere inches from Shizune's throat. Shizune froze mid-step, her breath catching in her throat as she carefully took half a step backward, staring at the glowing steel.

Before Naruto could adjust his guard, a shadow blurred above him.

THWACK!

Tsunade vanished from her position and reappeared directly behind Naruto, bringing her fist down onto the top of his head with terrifying precision. The sheer physical impact knocked Naruto's chin toward his chest, driving his knees an inch into the floorboards before his golden aura dispersed into ambient light.

"What in the hell is going on here, Naruto?!" Tsunade demanded, her chest heaving as she glared down at her surrogate nephew. "Why are you unsheathing the Nine-Tails Cutter inside the house?! And why did you destroy a perfectly good door?!"

Naruto rubbed the large bump forming on his head, wincing as he sheathed his katana back into its scabbard. His expression remained unnaturally dark. "I felt someone... right inside my room."

Tsunade's eyes narrowed slightly, her anger instantly tempering into sharp, professional vigilance. "Explain."

"It was right before you came running down the hall," Naruto said, his voice dropping into a serious register. "I felt a presence standing right beside my bed... like someone was trying to choke the life out of me. When I opened my eyes, the physical form was gone, but the presence lingered by the door."

A short while later, the four residents of the residence were gathered around the low wooden table in the central living room.

Tsunade sat at the head of the table, her arms crossed over her broad chest, while Shizune poured hot tea into ceramic cups. Even Tonton, the small ninja pig who had been startled awake by the commotion, sat quietly on a cushion, her small ears twitching nervously. Naruto sat across from them, his posture rigid.

"Describe what you felt again, Naruto," Tsunade instructed, her voice calm and analytical. "Could it have been a lingering residue from a nightmare?"

"No way," Naruto answered immediately, shaking his head with absolute certainty. "If it were a standard nightmare, my sensory network would have recognized the internal neural feedback. My capacity to perceive natural energy doesn't misfire like that."

Naruto extended his right palm, his fingers curling into a tight fist. "The ambient natural energy in the atmosphere around my bed turned completely rancid when I woke up. It felt like something foul... like a piece of rotting garbage was occupying the air right next to my head. Chakra isn't supposed to feel like that. It was fundamentally corrupted."

Tsunade stared at him in quiet silence for several seconds, weighing his words with the tactical experience of a veteran Sannin.

"Go take a cold shower, Naruto," Tsunade ordered softly, leaning back against her cushion. "Get your head clear. I have a feeling things are going to get exceptionally chaotic in a few hours."

By five-thirty in the morning, the sky over Konoha had shifted to a pale, misty gray.

Sleep was entirely out of the question. Tsunade had dragged both Naruto and Shizune straight to the Hokage Mansion, commandeering their restless energy to help clear the mountain of administrative documents that had accumulated on her executive desk.

FLAP! FLAP!

The sharp sound of wings cut through the morning air. A heavy messenger hawk swooped through the open window, landing squarely on the perch beside the Hokage's desk. Tied to its leg was a dark crimson scroll bearing the official crest of the Demon Country.

Shizune quickly stepped forward, untying the scroll and breaking the wax seal before handing it directly to Tsunade.

As Tsunade's brown eyes scanned the official dispatch, her expression hardened.

"It's happened," Tsunade muttered grimly. "The ancient seal in the Demon Country has fractured. Mōryō has been awakened."

Naruto, who was sitting on the edge of a wooden cabinet sorting through mission reports, paused. While he had anticipated the eventual return of the ancient entity based on historical archives he had reviewed in the Senju library, the timing was startlingly precise.

Tsunade stood up from her leather chair, her white Hokage haori billowing behind her. "Shizune! Issue an emergency summons immediately! Assemble all available Jonin and elite Chunin at the main assembly plaza!"

Within twenty minutes, the central plaza below the Hokage Monument was packed with Konoha's top combat operatives. Standing before the ranks, Tsunade delivered a brief, high-level tactical briefing.

Mōryō, an ancient demonic entity possessing the ability to command an immortal "Ghost Army" of stone soldiers, posed an existential threat to the entire continent. Massive strike forces from all five major shinobi nations were being mobilized to form a defensive perimeter around the borders to contain the advancing legion.

Once the primary forces departed to reinforce the frontlines, Tsunade turned her attention to Naruto, who stood waiting beside her desk inside the private office.

"Naruto," Tsunade said, her eyes dead serious. "The military command in the Demon Country has confirmed that the shrine priestess, Shion, is the primary target. She is the only living individual who possesses the sacred bloodline technique required to re-seal Mōryō permanently."

Tsunade rested her hands on the desk, leaning forward. "If Shion falls, Mōryō's ghost army will become completely unstoppable. You are being assigned to lead her personal protection detail. Strap your gear on, brat."

"Understood," Naruto replied smoothly. "Assign Hinata Hyūga, Ino Yamanaka, and Rock Lee to my squad."

Tsunade raised an eyebrow. "Just those three?"

"That's all I need," Naruto stated with absolute confidence. "Lee's high-speed physical force is ideal for smashing through large-scale mechanical units without wasting chakra. Hinata and Ino provide a dual-layered sensory net—Hinata's Byakugan tracks structural movement at long range, while Ino's mind-sensing picks up concealed intent. With them securing my flanks, I can fight at absolute maximum output without worrying about an ambush."

Tsunade stared at him for a moment before letting out a sharp, approving smirk. "Squad approved. Move out!"

Within the hour, Team Naruto crossed the northern gates of Konoha, bounding across the thick forest canopy at maximum travel speed toward the jagged mountains of the Demon Country.

As they leaped from branch to branch, the wind whipping through their clothes, Ino shifted her position to leap parallel to Naruto.

"Hey, Naruto!" Ino called out over the rush of the wind. "What exactly is this Mōryō demon we're dealing with? The briefing was pretty sparse on details!"

Naruto adjusted his grip on the strap of his equipment scroll. "Mōryō is an ancient, higher-tier demon entity from the era before the founding of the hidden villages. According to the historical texts in the Senju archives, he attempted to conquer the world centuries ago to establish a 'Thousand-Year Kingdom' under his absolute rule. Classic villain ambition."

"And his seal broke?" Hinata asked softly, her Byakugan scanning the horizon ahead.

"Not entirely," Naruto clarified. "Mōryō's physical vessel and his spiritual energy were locked away in two separate, heavily guarded shrines miles apart. The dispatch we received indicates that a group of dark cultists successfully shattered the spiritual seal. That released spirit is currently animating an immortal stone army."

"And this Priestess Shion... she's the key?" Lee asked, adjusting his green leg weights mid-bound.

"She inherits the specific biological chakra frequency capable of suppressing Mōryō," Naruto explained. "Because she represents the single threat to his existence, Mōryō and his four primary dark followers are hunting her down. Our objective is simple: escort Shion safely to the main shrine so she can execute the sealing ritual."

Naruto's eyes narrowed as he looked back at his squad. "Keep your guards up. An ancient demon doesn't fight fair. His ghost army acts similarly to an immortal reanimation technique. We're going to hit heavy resistance before we even reach the priestess's temple."

Naruto's prediction proved correct.

Three hours into their journey, as the lush forests began to give way to the rocky, desolate terrain of the Demon Country, a sudden wave of dark energy surged through the trees.

SWOOSH! SWOOSH!

Dozens of towering, stone-armored soldiers featuring glowing crimson eyes materialized from the shadows, their heavy halberds swinging down toward the squad with crushing momentum.

"Contact!" Hinata shouted, her Byakugan instantly veins-flaring around her eyes. "Forty hostiles approaching from the canopy!"

CLANG!

Naruto drew the Nine-Tails Cutter in a blinding motion, a single horizontal arc of golden chakra slicing the leading three stone soldiers cleanly in half. Without breaking momentum, Lee unclipped a pair of heavy iron nunchaku from his waist, spinning the weapon around his shoulder to smash the stone heads off three more assailants in rapid succession.

To his right, Ino unclasped a pair of heavy wooden tonfas from her back sheath, sweeping the hardened weapons forward to shatter the core joints of an advancing soldier. Beside her, Hinata executed a sharp spin, her palms glowing with blue chakra as her Twin Lion Fists shredded through stone armor like parchment.

"We can't waste time playing around with foot soldiers!" Naruto shouted over the din of battle.

CLAP!

Naruto brought his palms together in a sharp seal. "Shadow Clone Jutsu!"

POOF! POOF! POOF!

A dense cloud of white smoke erupted across the forest floor. When it cleared, over two hundred identical Naruto clones stood packed shoulder-to-shoulder, their eyes gleaming with golden energy.

"Clear the path!" the original Naruto commanded.

"Right!" the army of clones roared in unison.

With a collective flash of Body Flicker, the clone army dispersed into the forest like a golden wave, smashing through the stone legion and clearing a wide, unobstructed corridor through the battle zone.

"Follow me!" Naruto called out, leaping forward into the freshly cleared path, with Lee, Hinata, and Ino following closely behind.

By late afternoon, the team arrived at the grand, ancient temple of the Demon Country.

The temple was nestled high within a secluded mountain cliff, surrounded by tall stone pillars and traditional red torii gates. Upon entering the inner sanctuary, they were met by Tairo, the priestess's chief attendant, a middle-aged man with tired eyes and a grave expression.

Taruho led them into the main hall, where Priestess Shion sat upon a raised wooden dais.

Shion was a young girl of striking beauty, possessing long blonde hair and pale purple eyes. However, her expression was cold, distant, and completely devoid of warmth. As Team Naruto approached, Shion's eyes suddenly dilated, her pupils shimmering with an eerie, lavender light.

She stared directly at Naruto, her voice trembling slightly. "You... blond ninja. You are going to die. I have seen it."

The room went dead silent. Ino and Hinata gasped, stepping forward nervously.

Naruto, however, merely rested his hand on his sword hilt and let out a dry, amused smirk. "Newsflash, princess: every single person in this room is gonna die eventually. That's called basic biology. Try giving me some real news next time."

Shion blinked, startled by his complete lack of fear. "You don't understand! My predictions are absolute! Every single vision of death I have ever seen has come to pass without exception!"

"Then today's gonna be the day you break your streak," Naruto replied smoothly, turning his back on her. "Relax a bit. My squad is here to see this contract through to the end."

Shortly after sunset, the squad initiated the escort protocol, moving Shion toward the subterranean mountain shrine where the final sealing ritual was to take place.

As they traversed a narrow mountain pass bordered by towering rock walls, the air temperature plummeted dramatically.

BOOM!

A massive explosion shattered the path ahead, raining heavy boulders down upon the procession. From the billowing smoke stepped two figures shrouded in dark, pulsing chakra—Yami's top followers, a tall man and a sharp-featured woman whose bodies were infused directly with Mōryō's dark energy.

Naruto immediately stepped to the front of the formation, his hand resting on the grip of the Nineth Cutter.

"Lee! Ino! Hinata!" Naruto ordered crisply, his eyes fixed on the two dark cultists. "Secondary objective active! Take Shion and Taruho and clear out of this kill zone immediately! I'm going to handle these two idiots and catch up to you in five minutes!"

"Understood!" Lee yelled, scooping Tairo onto his back while Ino and Hinata grabbed Shion's arms, bounding up the rock face toward the upper ridge.

The male cultist snarled, attempting to leap after them. "You think you can escape—"

BOOM!

A Naruto Shadow Clone materialized out of thin air, delivering a brutal, spinning kick directly to the male cultist's jaw, sending him crashing into the left cliff face.

Simultaneously, the original Naruto stepped forward, engaging the female cultist as she drew a pair of dark, chakra-infused daggers.

CLANG! CLANG! CLANG!

Naruto deliberately held back his raw output, using basic Taijutsu parries to evaluate their movement patterns and energy signatures. The two cultists fought with frantic, unnatural aggression, constantly calling upon dark reserves to regenerate their physical bodies whenever Naruto's blade struck them.

When the two cultists brought their hands together to summon another massive horde of stone soldiers, Naruto merely clapped his hands.

"Shadow Clone Jutsu!"

A dozen clones erupted around the field, instantly engaging the stone army in close-quarters combat.

As Naruto parried a sweeping strike from the female cultist, his sensory perception locked onto her core energy signature. A sudden chill ran down his spine.

This chakra... Naruto thought, his eyes narrowing in realization. It's the exact same foul, rancid frequency I felt standing over my bed last night in the Senju compound!

"Alright," Naruto muttered, his tone turning ice-cold. "I'm done playing around."

VWOMP!

In a fraction of a second, natural energy surged into Naruto's body. Orange pigmentation flared around his eyes as he entered Sage Mode.

Without giving the two cultists a chance to react, Naruto channeled Kurama's golden chakra. Two massive, golden chakra arms erupted from the earth directly beneath the cultists, locking around their limbs like steel vices and lifting them into the air.

"What is this strength?!" the female cultist shrieked, struggling frantically.

Naruto didn't answer. With absolute precision, he injected a dense, concentrated surge of volatile Natural Energy directly into their chakra pathways through Kurama's arms.

Because the dark cultists possessed no training in balancing natural energy, their bodies immediately succumbed to stone petrification. Within two seconds, both cultists turned into solid, gray stone statues, their terrified expressions frozen in rock.

SNAP!

Naruto snapped his fingers. The golden chakra arms crushed inward, reducing both stone statues to fine gray powder that scattered into the wind.

Without missing a beat, Naruto focused his mind, locking onto the Flying Raijin formula placed on Hinata's shoulder guard.

FLASH!

In a golden streak of light, Naruto vanished from the mountain pass.

A mile ahead on the ridge path, the third cultist—a massive brute wielding a spiked iron club—had managed to ambush Lee, Ino, and Hinata, pinning them near the edge of a cliff.

Just as the brute raised his iron club to crush Lee's guard, a golden flash illuminated the night sky.

BOOM!

Naruto materialized directly above the brute, delivering a devastating, mid-air axe-kick straight into the cultist's face. The force of the strike shattered the mountain trail, embedding the brute twenty feet deep into the solid rock face of the mountain.

The brute slowly lifted his bloody head from the crater, staring up at Naruto in absolute horror. "W-What... where are the other two?! How are you here?!"

Naruto stepped out of the dust cloud, his eyes glowing with the fierce aura of Sage Mode. "Those two? I just turned them into gravel. And now it's your turn."

FLASH!

Naruto executed a high-speed Body Flicker, appearing directly in front of the brute's face. Before the cultist could raise his hands, Naruto grabbed him by the throat, hoisting his massive body off the ground with one hand.

In an instant, Naruto flooded the brute's system with pure Natural Energy. The cultist's skin grayed, his limbs stiffened, and within seconds, he was completely transformed into a motionless stone statue.

CRUNCH!

Naruto flexed his fingers, shattering the stone statue into dust.

With the primary cultists eliminated, the dark chakra animating the distant stone legion collapsed, causing the remaining ghost army across the region to crumble back into harmless dirt.

Later that night, the team set up a temporary camp within a sheltered cavern near the entrance to the subterranean shrine. A crackling campfire cast warm, flickering light across the stone walls.

Shion sat near the fire, staring blankly into the flames. Her eyes were wide with a mixture of shock and utter confusion.

"This... this makes no sense," Shion whispered, her voice trembling. "This location... this was the exact cliffside from my vision. This was where your life was supposed to end..."

Naruto sat across from her, calmly eating a ration bar while cleaning the blade of the Nine-Tails Cutter with a cloth.

"What a massive disappointment, huh?" Naruto chuckled lightly. "Nobody died, Priestess."

Lee, Ino, and Hinata turned toward Naruto, their expressions filled with curiosity.

"What do you mean by that, Naruto-kun?" Hinata asked softly.

Shion stammered, looking up at Naruto in shock. "H-How do you know about that?! How do you know what I saw?!"

"First off, I did my homework in the Senju archives before we left," Naruto stated plainly, sheathing his katana. "I read all about your family's line and your ability to perceive future probability threads. Second, you gave it away back at the temple when you told me I was gonna die with that terrified look on your face. It didn't take a genius to figure out you saw a vision of your own death occurring alongside mine."

Shion buried her face in her knees, her shoulders shaking. "I was so sure... my visions have never been wrong..."

Naruto leaned back against the cavern wall, looking up at the stalactites above.

"Listen to me carefully, Priestess," Naruto said, his tone turning calm and grounded. "Life and death are two sides of the exact same coin. Sometimes you get lucky and survive a deadly situation, and sometimes your card gets pulled. There's no point in obsessing over a future that hasn't happened yet."

Naruto closed his eyes, a small, knowing smile touching his lips.

"A wise man once told me: Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present."

Naruto looked directly at Shion, his blue eyes warm and steady. "Don't waste your energy worrying about what might happen tomorrow. Right now, in this moment, you are safe, alive, and surrounded by people who will protect you. Focus on today. Tomorrow, we'll go down into that shrine and seal Mōryō away for good."
