Chapter 4 - Ch. 4: The Test

"Kya-kya-kya!" The moment that my father had his guard let it off of its leash, the weak Saibaman rushed at me with its irritating laugh. The same laugh that I'd heard over and over again in my head every day for the last fourteen months.

Naturally, I ducked backward, avoiding its claws with measured footsteps.

My father's head shook in slight disapproval, as I ducked and weaved, just staying outside the range of the plant bastard's claws, but the Saibaman himself was a different story. His annoying, confident laugh slowly transformed into a frustrated hiss, as he failed to realize that he wasn't capable of hitting me, as I was predicting his every move, my physical abilities just barely shy of his own.

Finally, I found my opening. A slight overextension during an attempt to claw my face off. It wasn't much, but it was more than enough for me. With a swift motion, I slammed my shoulder into the center of the Saibaman's chest, causing the bastard to cough up blood, stumbling backwards. It wasn't enough to take it down completely, though.

As the Saibaman pulled itself together and to its feet, I launched the final blow, an energy attack.

Now, Saiyans didn't understand chi energy. Not really, but we had a lot of it. That meant that it was actually rarer for a Saiyan to be unable to use them than capable of it.

After all, Goku's first time pulling the Kamehameha Wave off was back when he had a power level of 10. The strongest Saiyans had power levels of 10,000.

But, unfortunately, that didn't mean that I could pull something like the Kamehameha Wave or Galick Gun off with my currently suppressed 550 power level. As it was, five energy balls were my limit, and the sizes varied from ones as big as my head, to ones as small as a golf ball.

The one the size of my head hit last, blowing the Saibaman's head from his shoulders. The body fell to the ground a moment later, lifeless.

It was more luck than anything else. Could I pull off a win as clean as that ever again? Almost certainly not.

Something that Asper and my father clearly noticed. But I'd won, one way or another. It was a clear show of strength, and I'd officially earned my right to my position as a Saiyan.

With a snort and a disappointed shake of his head, my father turned on his heels, not saying another word.

Guess I hadn't earned my right to the title of 'Saiyan Prince.'

Oh, well. I was satisfied with being only a partial disappointment.

Besides, a power level of 550 at the age of five? That was Elite-class level power, technically. Twice as strong as Raditz was right now, and he was the literal bottom of the Elite-class barrel.

The next morning, I found a note on my desk. Apparently, I had six months to prepare for my first mission. Normally, one wouldn't get that much time, but my team needed to be chosen for me before I could get sent out.

When I read the note, I had mixed reactions.

Would I be able to actually complete a Saiyan mission? Slaughter an entire planet?

No. Absolutely not. Even if I wasn't worried about destroying my chances of not going straight to Hell along with Frieza and all of my other various enemies after I died, I wasn't the type to do something without thinking about it. Nor was I immoral enough to be capable of killing a single innocent person, much less a whole planet full of them.

That meant that, on principle, I was going to have to go rogue on my very first mission. And subdue my entire team, too, so that they can't complete it, either.

But, in the meantime, I'd have six months to train on my own. During that time, Asper wasn't going to be working with me at all, I'd be able to actually work, and get stronger without the pointless beatings getting in my way.

Plus, if I went rogue on my first mission, as weak as I was, nobody would care except for my father. Much less Frieza. That meant that I'd only have Saiyans coming after me.

Elite Saiyans, with power levels over 5,000, but just Saiyans, all the same. Frieza wouldn't bother dealing with me.

Even after destroying Planet Vegeta, he wouldn't care to deal with the dregs.

That gave me the leeway that I needed. Unfortunately, it also meant that I had a lot of work to do.
