Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: First Conflict with James

London.

King's Cross Station.

Tobias drove the car, carrying his family, and stopped at the entrance of the station.

While taking luggage out of the trunk, Eileen earnestly instructed Snape about many things after school started.

Just like mothers all over the world.

Even though she knew her child had abilities beyond ordinary imagination, in Eileen's eyes, Snape would always be a child who hadn't grown up.

Facing her endless nagging, Snape just calmly agreed to everything one by one.

Pushing the cart to the third pillar between Platform 9 and Platform 10.

After the final farewell, under Eileen's gaze full of blessings, Snape pushed the cart abruptly, rushing towards the wall that looked like it was made of solid bricks!

His vision suddenly plunged into darkness.

Rumbling noise filled his ears, as if he had drilled into a dark and narrow tunnel.

However, after just three or four seconds, a sudden light bloomed in his vision, and a steam engine puffing constantly appeared right in front of his eyes!

On the platform at the edge, there were many more students like Eric coming and going. Everyone's cart was full of luggage, and owls of various colors were looking around in their cages.

Without rushing to board the train, Snape stood in an empty place a little further away and waited quietly for a while.

He didn't have to wait too long.

More than ten minutes later, a familiar figure finally rushed out from the wall that people were constantly entering and exiting, with a look of surprise and excitement still remaining on her face.

Especially after seeing Snape, the smile on Lily's face became even brighter.

She waved to him excitedly, trotted all the way to Snape's side pushing her cart, and couldn't wait to share the wondrous experience just now.

"That wall really can be passed through! If you hadn't told me about this, I absolutely wouldn't have noticed anything unusual on my own!"

"This is a type of advanced spell. We should be able to learn it when we reach the higher years."

Chatting idly with Lily.

After settling their luggage, Snape and Lily found an empty compartment to sit down, and let out Juliet, who had been suffocated in the cage for most of the day.

"Can you bring your raven to Hogwarts too? I thought only owls were allowed."

"It has wings, it can fly, it can deliver letters. It's basically an owl."

"..."

Lily rolled her eyes, strongly condemning Snape's act of lying with his eyes open.

But Juliet clearly understood Snape's words.

Head held high and chest puffed out, she hopped around on the table, making Lily beam with joy and unable to resist stroking her smooth feathers.

"Do you think when we get to Hogwarts, we can still stay together every day like this?"

"That depends on how the Sorting Hat chooses, but there's a high probability we won't be sorted into the same house."

The sound of the door opening rang out.

When Snape caught a glimpse of two boys with arrogant expressions walking in one after another and sitting down, his heart trembled slightly.

"According to your personality, I think you'll be sorted into Gryffindor. It would suit a brave person like you very well.

And I'm more likely to be sorted into Slytherin. That would be a good place for me to learn magic."

What Snape didn't say was that in Slytherin, he would have access to more opportunities to learn the Dark Arts.

Otherwise, if he wanted to avoid the turmoil caused by pure-blood ideology within the house, Ravenclaw would actually be his first choice!

At this current point in time.

It happened to be the first year of Voldemort's return from ten years of biding his time.

But the Death Eaters had gradually begun to show their edge in the British wizarding world. Under Voldemort's leadership, they purged dissidents, breaking many originally happy families apart. At the same time, signs of public condemnation were gradually appearing, and their reputation in the *Daily Prophet* and among the populace was extremely poor!

Although tragic massacres had not yet occurred, Snape knew better than anyone that this was just a matter of time!

And because most of those who joined the Death Eaters were Slytherins born in pure-blood families.

This undoubtedly caused many people in the current environment to transfer their hatred of Death Eaters onto them, concluding that all Slytherin students were reserve Death Eaters, naturally harboring great malice towards these students!

Coincidentally, in this carriage, there were exactly two people who firmly believed this.

After paying close attention for several months, every tragedy caused by Death Eaters appearing in the *Daily Prophet* made them indignant for a long time.

Therefore, realizing at this moment that there was a student next to them who was most likely about to join Slytherin, the restless sense of justice in their hearts urged them to do something!

So when Snape's voice fell, James, sitting next to Lily, already had a sneer on his face.

His legs were crossed on the table.

His tone was frivolous, yet he said contemptuously to Sirius opposite him, pointing his words:

"Who would want to go to Slytherin? If it were me, I might drop out. What about you?"

Sirius cooperated with a burst of roar laughter, pointing the spearhead at Snape in the dark.

What James didn't say was:

He didn't know why, but when he saw the boy sitting opposite the girl with fiery red hair, an inexplicable dislike rose uncontrollably from the bottom of his heart.

If it were an ordinary person, they might attribute this feeling to their own problem, but in James's view, he never made mistakes.

Although he didn't know *why* I hate you, it must be *your* fault, no doubt!

Especially after realizing that this was a thug intending to join Slytherin, which practically equaled becoming a part of the future Death Eaters.

James logically found a reason for himself and the birth of this disgust.

But what he didn't expect was:

Facing his mockery, before Snape could say anything, the girl with hair like fire turned her head and glared at them.

"You are so rude! Didn't your parents teach you at home how to communicate with others when you go out?"

An expression of embarrassment appeared on his face.

However, to cover up the guilt of being hit where it hurt, an even stronger anger immediately made James wave his arms and retort loudly:

"All those who join Slytherin are liars and murderers. Hogwarts would be better off without them!"

"Heh, in the eyes of some cowards who only know how to speak ill of others, I'm afraid he thinks he's the only brave warrior in the whole world."

Lily glanced at James disdainfully.

Before the flushed-faced opponent could continue to retort, she took the initiative to pull Snape up, seemingly not wanting to stay in this carriage for even a moment longer.

In contrast, Snape, as the subject of the conflict itself, showed no intention of anger.

Juliet spread her wings and landed on his shoulder, which had grown somewhat broader.

His other hand drew his wand smoothly, pointing directly at Sirius, who wanted to stand up for James, as if possessing foreknowledge. The looming deterrent instantly froze Sirius's movement of trying to stand up!

Signaling Lily to wait for him a moment.

Before closing the compartment door, Snape said politely to the two boys whose eyes were spitting fire:

"Believe it or not, I actually bear no malice towards you two.

As long as you don't provoke me, I won't lay a hand on you. I hope you can keep this firmly in mind for the next few years.

But if you show malice towards me, then please understand, I will also fight back against you like today, until you give up targeting me."

Suddenly turning his wand, he aimed it at James.

Before anyone could react, a skillful jinx shot out from the tip of his wand!

*"Bat-Bogey Hex!"*
