(T/N: Zoning the fuck out while TLing this, Xianzhou Experince, this is way more boring then I remember)
"So it seems you understand what I meant."
Hearing Dan Heng's reply, Jingliu nodded.
It surprised her a little, but it also made sense.
"But…" Dan Heng spoke again, his tone carrying more sorrow than before.
"For that person… isn't this far too unfair?"
"He knew nothing at all, yet he's forced to shoulder a burden of sin…"
"Fairness? Hahahahahaha." Hearing such a painfully naive remark, Blade clutched his head and burst into wild laughter.
"In this universe, fairness never existed to begin with!"
"Why… why is it that only those abominations get to rise again and again? Why?"
"Why does someone like her have to be buried, turned to ashes, and forgotten by the world?!"
"Fairness… hahahaha."
"That thing never existed from the very start!"
Black miasma poured endlessly from Blade's body as he once again fell into madness. This time, though, it was even more unhinged than before.
"Why? Why? Why—ugh!"
Jingliu looked at Blade and found him bothersome. With a flick of her hand, the Epiphyllum Sword appeared in her grasp. She lightly pointed it at him, granting him a brief, merciful death.
Watching Blade collapse, eyes shut, sleeping peacefully on the ground, Jingliu paid him no further attention. Her gaze returned to Dan Heng.
"He's right. From the moment one is born, there is no such thing as fairness."
"I was born on the Xianzhou Cangcheng."
Confusion flashed across Dan Heng's face, and Jingliu noticed it immediately.
"You're wondering why you've never heard of it, aren't you?" she said calmly.
"The Xianzhou Cangcheng was devoured in Star Calendar year 6300 by the living planet known as the Devourer of Worlds, Rahu."
Dan Heng fell silent.
"Didn't expect it, did you?" Jingliu let out a self-mocking laugh.
"That the position of Sword Champion of the Xianzhou Luofu was taken by a homeless orphan."
"Grandmaster…" Yanqing wanted to comfort her, but no words came to mind.
"Why was it Cangcheng that was devoured, and not the Luofu or the Zhuming?"
"Why was I the one who survived?"
"Why, after I resolved myself to practice the sword, claimed the title of Sword Champion, and swore lofty vows with my companions, was I repaid with such a tragic fate?"
"Fairness? There has never been such a thing." Jingliu realized her emotions were rising. She steadied herself before continuing.
"Fairness is nothing more than pretty lies told by those in power to placate those beneath them."
She shook her head, her thoughts drifting far away.
"True fairness may not exist forever," Dan Heng said, finally loosening his clenched fist and looking at her with a rigid expression.
"But temporary fairness will appear."
"Is that so?" Jingliu froze for a brief moment, then quickly recovered and nodded in agreement.
"The reason I can speak so calmly with you today is thanks to someone's help, suppressing the Mara-struck body for a short while."
"When next time comes… no…" Jingliu opened her mouth, then closed it again, shaking her head.
"There won't be a next time."
She removed the black veil, revealing her eyes. Gazing at the unchanged scenery she had seen for centuries, a look of nostalgia surfaced within them.
No one present spoke.
Yanqing did not know what to say. Dan Heng was lost in thought. As for Blade…
He slept peacefully.
Not much time passed before Jingliu's cool voice rang out again.
"You've seen enough. You've heard enough."
"Aren't you coming out yet?"
"Jing Yuan…"
