The headlights of Silas Devano's black cars cut through the fog at the pier like sharp swords of light. The previously silent atmosphere was now filled with the roar of engines and the sound of gunfire. Anna stood beside Alaric, feeling a chill that did not come from the sea breeze, but from the deadly gaze of her father-in-law, who had never wanted her.
Thomas, Anna's father, looked pale. His hand, which held the voice recording, trembled violently.
"Silas... you can't hide this forever!" Thomas shouted, his voice hoarse and swallowed by the wind.
"I can if there are no witnesses left, Thomas," Silas replied with terrifying calm. He gave a small signal with his hand. "Finish them off. But bring Thomas's daughter to me... I want her to see how her lover dies before I send her to join her mother."
BANG!
The first shot was fired. The bullet grazed Thomas's shoulder, causing him to fall to the ground.
"FATHER!" Anna screamed.
