Chapter 1 - Prologue

"I have come too far to just give up everything and watch others take it all while I shrink. If I could make everything go away, I would choose not to, because I refuse to let this scar heal. I would burn down the whole world with myself inside it if it meant letting another person have what created this scar in me. Only I can own these scars because I am worthy of them."

A gunshot was heard in the background as a body thudded heavily onto the wet ground, blood tracing itself down into the water...

 "I curse you, my beloved."

**20 Years Ago, Before the Present Time...**

A young woman walked out of the church hall without looking back, even as her two-year-old daughter sat on the ground, crying. The reverend sister, disturbed by the child's sobs, abandoned her current task to check on the source of the distress. She was stunned to find only the child, drowning in her own tears.

"Where is your mother?" she asked.

The young girl pointed toward the door, but there was no one in the church hall. The only thing the reverend sister could see was a letter lying on the girl's little knitted bag. She picked it up and read through it, feeling dumbfounded. The brief letter was a plea to the church, asking them to care for the little girl as their own, as her mother could not do so due to her circumstances. She had also left a small amount of money, requesting that the church not search for her and take care of her daughter.

The reverend sister exhaled and made the sign of the cross, asking God to forgive the girl's mother.
