Chapter 65 - Chapter 65

  Chapter 65 Man and Demon

In the luxurious manor, a dozen people surrounded Mizuno Yuuma and Takamoto Kei, all armed, creating a tense atmosphere.

"Everyone, listen to me! That thing in the house is a man-eating demon that has already harmed many people!"

Mizuno Yuuma was a young man with shoulder-length hair, of ordinary appearance, but with a resolute gaze.

A tall, burly man with a face full of scars held a gleaming long knife, cursing, "Get out! Our affairs are none of your business. Get out now, or don't blame us for being impolite!"

  "You're aiding and abetting evil!"

  Takamoto Kei frowned.

The demon was in the house ahead, and it was still daytime—the best opportunity to exorcise it.

But because of these people's obstruction, they couldn't act.

  "What did you say?"

The burly man's face darkened instantly, and the others' eyes also became dangerous.

Mizuno Yuuma tugged at Takamoto Kei.

  "Let's get out first!"

Although unwilling, Takamoto Kei had no choice but to give up.

Watching the two leave, the burly man turned and went into the back room, a fawning smile on his face.

  "Master, they've been driven away!"

A massive shadow lurked in the shadows, a piercing voice rang out: "Demon Slayer Corps!"

  ...

  Time passed, and night fell.

Mizuno Yuuma and Takamoto Kei huddled in a corner, their faces etched with distress.

They exchanged a glance and sighed in unison.

They had thought it would be a routine mission, but they hadn't expected this unexpected situation.

"Haven't the reinforcements from headquarters arrived yet?" Mizuno Yuuma looked up at the sky.

  "They should be here soon."

Takamoto Kei, with his mohawk and rebellious air, now had his expression almost entirely ruined by his distress.

After a while, Mizuno Yuuma couldn't sit still any longer.

"No! It's already dark. That ghost might make a move. We have to keep an eye on it!"

He regretted alerting it during the day.

But with insufficient intelligence, they hadn't expected things to turn out this way.

Takamoto Kei said, "Then let's split up..."

  Caw caw caw!

  A crow's cawing interrupted him.

The two were startled at first, then their faces lit up with surprise.

"Are the reinforcements from headquarters here?"

  "They've arrived just in time!"

  Whoosh!

A gust of wind swept by, and a figure appeared beside them.

Aoki looked at their uniforms: "Mizuno Yuuma and Takamoto Kei?"

  "That's right, it's us."

Mizuno Yuuma nodded repeatedly, then suddenly his eyes widened, and he pulled Takamoto Kei back two steps, looking at Aoki in fear: "You, you, you are..."

Aoki's expression remained unchanged as he waved to the crow in the sky.

When he learned that this was a support mission, he had guessed that this situation would occur.

Having enjoyed the convenience of the Demon Slayer Corps' intelligence, they naturally had to bear the corresponding troubles.

"Aomura is a demon, but also an ally..." the Kasugai Crow flapped its wings.

After hearing the explanation, Mizuno Yuuma and Takamoto Kei glanced at Aoki's uniform and gradually relaxed, though their eyes still held a hint of wariness.

Aoki, of course, wouldn't argue with them and cut to the chase: "Tell me about the mission!"

When it came to business, both of them perked up and became serious.

Mizuno Yuuma said, "We received a mission to investigate the rumors of demons eating people here.

After two days of investigation, we did find traces of demons, but just as we were about to take action, an accident happened..."

He gave a bitter look and briefly described what they had encountered during the day.

"You encountered human interference?" Aoki wasn't surprised.

To demons, humans are food, but some demons will exploit humans.

"Have you figured out exactly what happened?" he asked again.

  The two nodded.

  The matter wasn't too complicated.

Those people and the demons were in a cooperative relationship; they collected food for the demons, and the demons eliminated their rivals.

Aoki's expression was somewhat strange: "Those people, their surname isn't Iguro, is it?"

"Iguro?" Mizuno Yuuma was taken aback, then shook his head. "No! Their surname is Doihara."

"That's right. Their methods are different from the Iguro family. The Iguro family should have been wiped out long ago."

Aoki shook his head slightly, then asked, "Is there any more information about that Doihara family?"

  "Yes!"

  Mizuno Yuuma nodded.

They hadn't wasted their time during the day.

Calling them the Doihara family wasn't entirely accurate; they weren't members of a single family, but rather a group of people with different surnames.

Or you could call them a yakuza gang.

The leader and several key members were surnamed Doihara.

"So they're all villains!" Aoki's face showed a thoughtful expression.

According to the information they had gathered, dozens of people were suspected of dying at the hands of the Doihara gang.

They should all be sent to the gallows!

"What do we need to do now? It's already dark, we'd better hurry!" Mizuno Yuuma's face was anxious.

Although the fact that the reinforcement was a ghost was far beyond their expectations, in this situation, they had no choice but to trust him.

Aoki said, "Let's go, take us to find that ghost."

  "Huh?" The

  two were slightly taken aback.

"Don't worry, I already have a plan," Aoki said.

Mizuno Yuuma and Takamoto Kei exchanged a glance, both showing surprise.

Faced with such a difficult situation, they had found a solution so quickly.

Although the reinforcement's identity was strange, he was unexpectedly reliable.

  "Okay! Please follow me!"

  Mizuno Yuuma said hurriedly.

A moment later, the three arrived at the west side of the town.

There was a vast and luxurious manor there.

"Is this it?" Aoki looked at the manor's magnificent gate.

  "Yes!"

Takamoto Kei touched the tuft of hair on his head. "The Doihara gang, relying on the power of the demon, amassed a vast fortune; they are arguably the richest people in this town."

Aoki sniffed lightly. "Such a strong smell of blood!"

Mizuno Yuuma and Takamoto Kei were both startled.

  "The smell of blood?"

  "Has someone else been murdered?"

  Their expressions immediately turned grim.

They hadn't expected to arrive too late.

Aoki said, "Such a strong smell of blood can't be produced by the death of just one or two people!"

"More than one or two people have died?"

Mizuno Yuuma and Takamoto Kei's faces paled.

Although they hadn't killed the people, they felt they had to bear some responsibility.

If they had killed that demon during the day, this wouldn't have happened.

"Things might not be as bad as you think,"

Aoki offered them a simple reassurance and walked forward.

The manor gate was tightly shut.

He didn't open it, but simply leaped over the wall.

Mizuno Yuuma and Takamoto Kei forced themselves to stay alert and followed.
