Chapter 106 - Ep 106

Feng Lihan left before dawn.

Hunting.

The mountain was quiet again.

Lin Yue stood near the outer balcony carved into stone, wind brushing softly through his pink hair. The heat from yesterday had passed, leaving him calmer… but emotionally unsettled.

He knew something had shifted.

Not just with Feng Lihan.

With Mo Shan.

Footsteps approached behind him.

Measured. Familiar.

"Lin Yue."

He didn't turn immediately.

"I thought you were working in the archives."

Mo Shan stopped a few steps away.

"I was."

A pause.

"Until I decided to stop avoiding something."

Lin Yue finally turned.

Mo Shan's expression was calm, but his eyes were not.

They were too steady.

"What are you avoiding?" Lin Yue asked quietly.

Mo Shan walked closer.

"You."

The wind stilled.

Lin Yue's fingers tightened slightly on the stone.

"Mo Shan…"

"I know about Alpha, Beta, Omega now," Mo Shan continued. "I know I'm a Alpha. I know I don't trigger your instincts the way Feng Lihan does."

His voice wasn't bitter.

Just honest.

"But I also know what I feel."

Lin Yue's chest tightened.

Mo Shan stepped closer, close enough that Lin Yue could see the faint tension in his jaw.

"I've stood beside you since the beginning," Mo Shan said softly. "Through the forest. Through the clan disputes. Through the child. Through demons."

Lin Yue swallowed.

"I know."

Mo Shan's eyes searched his face.

"When will you accept me?"

The question wasn't playful.

It wasn't casual.

It was vulnerable.

Lin Yue's mind went blank for a moment.

Accept him… how?

As partner? As second mate? As something undefined?

Mo Shan's voice lowered.

"I don't want to stand outside your life forever."

Lin Yue opened his mouth.

Closed it.

What was he supposed to say?

He cared about Mo Shan. Respected him. Trusted him.

Mo Shan had risked his life for them more than once.

But love—

Love wasn't a debt.

Mo Shan stepped closer again.

"If you don't refuse me," he said quietly, "can I take it as a yes?"

Lin Yue's heart started beating faster.

He didn't answer.

Not because he wanted to say yes.

Not because he wanted to say no.

But because he was confused.

Maybe…

Maybe I should accept him.

He's done so much for us.

He deserves—

Before the thought finished—

Mo Shan lifted a hand gently to Lin Yue's cheek.

Slow.

Giving him time to pull away.

Lin Yue didn't move.

Mo Shan leaned in.

Their lips touched.

Soft at first.

Testing.

Lin Yue froze.

Mo Shan deepened it slightly, one hand resting at Lin Yue's waist.

Not forceful.

But certain.

The kiss grew warmer.

Longer.

And that's when Lin Yue realized—

He wasn't responding.

His hands weren't reaching back.

His heart wasn't racing the same way it had with Feng Lihan.

There was no instinct.

No pull.

Just pressure.

Mo Shan pulled back slightly, searching his face.

"…You're not kissing me back."

Lin Yue's breath was uneven.

"I…"

He didn't know how to say it without hurting him.

Mo Shan's hand slowly dropped from his waist.

"Was that silence a no?" he asked quietly.

Lin Yue finally met his eyes.

"It wasn't a yes."

The words were gentle.

But firm.

Mo Shan stood very still.

For a long moment, he didn't speak.

Then he gave a faint, controlled smile.

"I thought… maybe if I moved first, you wouldn't refuse."

Lin Yue's chest ached.

"You deserve honesty," he said softly. "Not obligation."

Mo Shan looked away toward the mountains.

"I don't want you to accept me because I've done things for you."

The wind returned, brushing between them.

"I want you to choose me," Mo Shan finished.

Lin Yue stepped closer this time.

"I do choose you," he said carefully.

Mo Shan's eyes lifted.

"But not like that."

Silence.

Not hostile.

Just heavy.

"You're family," Lin Yue continued. "You're my partner in everything that matters. You're important to me."

Mo Shan exhaled slowly.

"But not your mate."

Lin Yue didn't lie.

"No."

The word was quiet.

Mo Shan nodded once.

It hurt. It showed.

But he didn't argue.

He didn't push.

"Thank you," he said after a moment.

"For not pretending."

Lin Yue reached out and squeezed his wrist gently.

"You matter to me."

Mo Shan gave a faint smile.

"I know."

And for the first time since he had walked onto the forest—

He stepped back.

Not defeated.

Not angry.

Just… adjusting.

Far above, a shadow passed across the sky.

Feng Lihan returning early.

The mountain wind shifted sharply.

Lin Yue felt it.

And this time—

His heart reacted immediately.

Mo Shan noticed.

He smiled faintly to himself.

"Ah," he murmured.

"That answers that."
