At night
Lin Yue's body was trembling.
At first, Feng Lihan thought it was from painâbut then he noticed the rhythm was wrong. Not shivers from cold. Not weakness.
Heat.
Lin Yue lay curled on the fur bedding, his skin flushed a soft, alarming pink. His ears become red ,damp with sweat, and his breath came out unevenâtoo fast, too heavy, as if the air itself was burning his lungs. He smell like peach,
This was the omega heat cycle.
It came every month.
Back in his own world, Lin Yue never feared it. He took suppressants on time, endured it quietly, safely.
But after coming hereâafter the chaos, the injury, the constant dangerâhe had forgotten.
There were no suppressants here.
Only fire beneath his skin.
"âŚHotâŚ" Lin Yue whispered, voice broken. His fingers clawed weakly at the fur beneath him as if trying to escape his own body.
Feng Lihan came closerâand froze. So sweat smell... And
He had seen fevers before. Battle fevers. Poison fevers. Near-death fevers.
This was different.
The scent in the air had changedâsoft, sweet, dizzying in a way that made his instincts stir uneasily. His chest tightened as he crouched beside Lin Yue.
"You're burning," Feng Lihan said quietly.
He placed his hand on Lin Yue's forehead.
Too hot.
Feng Lihan's eyes darkened. "A fever"
He didn't know. He had no knowledge of omega heat cycles. To him, this looked like illnessâdangerous, urgent.
Lin Yue turned his head weakly, eyes unfocused. When Feng Lihan tried to pull his hand away, Lin Yue grabbed it.
Firmly.
"So coldâŚ" Lin Yue murmured, pressing Feng Lihan's hand against his cheek. "Good⌠it feels good."
Feng Lihan sucked in a sharp breath.
His hand was cold from the night air. Against Lin Yue's overheated skin, the contrast was cruelly obvious.
"Lin Yue," he said, flustered despite himself. "I'll get cold waterâ"
Lin Yue shook his head, panic flickering across his flushed face. His grip tightened.
"Don't go."
Thenâhalf-conscious, unaware of how vulnerable he lookedâLin Yue fumbled at his clothes. He pushed down the simple beast-hide skirt he wore, seeking relief from the unbearable heat trapped against his skin.
Feng Lihan turned sharply away.
His heart thundered.
How could someone be this soft, this beautiful, and not realize the danger of it?he look down flushed I can't control myself ....
"Stop," Feng Lihan said, voice strainedânot in anger, but restraint. He quickly pulled a fur blanket over Lin Yue, shielding him, grounding him. "You're not thinking clearly."
Lin Yue whimpered faintly, breath hitching.
Feng Lihan stayed close, but controlled. He pressed his cool forearm against Lin Yue's side through the blanket, carefulâonly enough to help.
"I won't leave," Feng Lihan said firmly, as if making a promise to both of them.
"But you have to endure this. I'll keep you safe."
Lin Yue's fingers loosened, still clutching Feng Lihan's sleeve.
Feng Lihan closed his eyes. He took Lin Yue into his arms and lay down with him, his body feeling cold to him, so he hugged him tight and fell asleep.
He didn't understand omega heat.
He didn't understand what this meant.
But he understood one thing clearly:
Tonight, Lin Yue's life was in his hands.
And Feng Lihan would not fail him.
