Chapter 55 - Chapter 1: The Prophecy

February 31, 2041

Sunfire

The call was made. And Sunfire was here to answer it. Using a refractor field, Sunfire, a steadfast knight of the Brotherhood of Relics, entered the tent of the caller. Located on a planet close to the center of the galaxy and within a settlement still at least a hundred years from reaching space traveling technology, Sunfire didn't expect this trip to be worthwhile, but she had been wrong before.

Sunfire slipped underneath a line of hanging beads into the main lounge of a hut. The space was both vibrant in color and cluttered with antiques looming around the perimeter. Making no sound, she waited, masking her breathing and keeping her scent to herself. A lady of the corelinn species came from the back room.

As a knight of the Brotherhood of Relics, Sunfire has seen many intelligent species through the galaxy. Even among the intelligent amphibian types, the corelinns didn't stand out to her. As a species, they were not particularly tall, strong, or smart. A sole benefit she saw of them was their strong resilience out of water over other amphibious species of the galaxy.

The corelinn lady hadn't turned toward Sunfire's direction yet. Her years were young, and she was near motionless. Skin colored such a deep purple, she could almost hide in the shadows. Dressed in a splash of colorful clothes, she had no care of style, or sense of it.

The lady took a quick look in Sunfire's direction. And her eyes were not like that of her species. Sunfire could see this particular corelinn wasn't like the others of her kind. She was unique, different, like Sunfire was among her own species. This woman's eyes were a night sky full of stars.

Then the mystery woman smiled at Sunfire. No, this lady couldn't see her, could she? Not with her refractive field active. That would be improbable.

"Hello, Sunfire," the woman spoke while taking a seat on a chair next to a desk.

Sunfire, stunned, contemplated her next move. She shifted forward, deactivated the refractive field around her, and looked the affable woman over for a few seconds. "You know my name without me telling you. Seems this journey here may be worth my time."

"Please, sit." She gestured to a chair in the middle of the room, resting on multiple mats and rugs. "Don't worry. Nobody will bother us today. And my words are truth."

"I don't know you. I'll stand."

"Be my guest." She took a breath. "Members of your organization weren't easy to find. You're secretive and, apparently, cautious as well. I respect that."

Sunfire took a nibble at her lower lip. "And you're quite an interest. When one of my undercover bishops told me that someone from this planet, a planet without space travel, not only made him out as a Brotherhood of Relics member but also addressed him by name, I didn't believe it. After he relayed your message for me, I just had to investigate this myself. Now, tell me why you've called me here."

"Relax, Sunfire. You are not alone. For I am Anighta Yin'Dahen, and I, too, am like you."

"Tell me in what way you are like me." Sunfire's head tilted up in intrigue.

"You have powers that defy natural laws. I'm similar to you in that respect."

"Given your eyes, I had a hunch. Though, I'm sure you've come to see that these powers of ours come wrapped in a mystery. I have only had these powers for five years, and, as far as I can tell, I'm the only omelic with abilities," Sunfire responded.

"Time has an interesting way of shining light on unanswered questions. For you are the first ever. I am the third. And more enhanced beings like us will be born in the years to follow. And my words are truth," said Anighta.

Sunfire's eyebrow spiked. Raises the question as to who is the second?

Anighta continued. "You will go to sleep - a long sleep. And when you awaken, this very galaxy will be under a dark shadow of war. You will be the light to cast the away the shadow. For this is my gift, my prophecy to you. Now go. For you have a life to live before falling to slumber. Then when the time is right, fulfill this prophecy. My words are truth."

Sunfire smirked. "Very vague with your predictions. Never had a taste for that."

"We all have our limits."

"Do we?" Sunfire spoke the question as if it were a statement.

"Some more than others," Anighta reaffirmed.

Sunfire stared at the seer for a moment. "It is the job of the Brotherhood of Relics to protect this galaxy. I above the rest have the will to carry such a burden. And based on what you had to say to me, I now see clearly just where my place is, and I thank you for that."

"No thanks needed. And my words are truth." Anighta gave a small bow for respect.

"This has been enlightening. But I must leave you now. As you said yourself, it's time for me to live my life, and I have much to do." Sunfire turned her back to the stranger, ready to leave.

"Before you depart, I give you one last thing." Anighta came up to Sunfire and handed her a small device. Sunfire opened her hand to see that it was no bigger than her palm, shaped like a long triangle, and not made with technology available to Anighta or her species. Made Sunfire wonder how she got access to such a device.

Sunfire looked back at Anighta, and before she could say something, Anighta spoke. "Keep this with you and go. You will know what you need to do when the time comes."

Sunfire gave her one last head tilt before she departed from this planet.
