Chapter 69 - Chapter 69: Storm Shadow

Chapter 69: Storm Shadow

A white Bentley sped along the winding forest road, gradually slowing as it approached the DeCobray Estate, eventually stopping in front of the villa's main entrance.

The Baroness, dressed in a black fur coat with her long legs exposed, opened the car door and stepped out.

"Hi, Daniel, how did your meeting with the Secretary of Defense go?"

Mason's former associate, Baron Daniel DeCobray, dressed in an expensive suit, had clearly just attended a formal meeting. His eyes lit up when he saw the Baroness.

"The meeting went exceptionally well. The Secretary was very impressed with the particle accelerator. How about you? Did you enjoy Monaco? I really wish I could've joined you."

The Baroness nestled into Daniel's arms, gave him a brief kiss on the lips, then drifted away. "Baby, don't be discouraged. We'll have plenty of time together soon."

Daniel hesitated for a moment, then quickly caught up. "Ana, I'm your husband. I hope you won't keep secrets from me. Of course, I don't mean to invade your privacy."

"I just want to know where you are and what you're doing. I've only seen you once since our wedding night, Ana. You should understand—I don't want to fight with you."

"I just miss you..."

The Baroness was clearly unmoved by Daniel's tender words. She removed her shawl, revealing her figure, and replied casually.

But halfway through her response, she suddenly noticed a white figure at the end of the corridor. Startled, she turned and instinctively wrapped her arms around Daniel's neck.

"My dear, I missed you too. I just got back and I'm exhausted. I need to shower." She gave a suggestive look and patted Daniel's cheek.

"Go downstairs to your room and wait for me. I'll come find you shortly."

Receiving the Baroness's hint, Daniel was overjoyed. "Yes, my Baroness." He took a half-step back, bowed slightly, and left happily.

The Baroness had just turned around when a young man in white tactical gear with a cold, handsome face appeared before her.

"McCullen actually sent you to babysit me?" The Baroness angrily kicked off her high heels, and then, in a flash, a razor-sharp blade was at her throat.

"If I want to watch someone, they never know I'm there." Storm Shadow sheathed his blade. "McCullen told me that if I see the Baron getting too close to you, I'm to eliminate him."

The Baroness's anger intensified. She said defiantly, "I'm the Baroness, he's my husband! He can be as close to me as he wants!"

Storm Shadow remained silent, only staring at the Baroness with cold, calculating eyes. Even though he said nothing, she felt a chill run down her spine. She had trained under Storm Shadow for a time and experienced firsthand how terrifying this man could be.

He possessed a lethal precision that left no room for escape. She knew this man always kept his word.

"Daniel's lab has made a major breakthrough. His particle accelerator will significantly advance our operation. I hope you won't jeopardize the entire plan." The Baroness turned and poured herself a glass of wine, trying to ease the tension.

"That's not my concern." Storm Shadow's face remained cold and expressionless.

The Baroness sighed softly. Storm Shadow was McCullen's most trusted operative—unwavering and impossible to manipulate. She could only change the subject.

"Besides watching me, McCullen must have given you other orders, right?"

"I'll help you retrieve the warheads." Storm Shadow turned, looking through the villa window at the brightly lit Eiffel Tower in the distance.

"Also, I'll eliminate the loose end I failed to kill last time."

The Baroness's face lit up. "Daniel told me on the phone that Mason would be coming to the estate tonight, but I don't want to see him again."

Storm Shadow nodded, turned, and vanished.

After Storm Shadow left, the Baroness closed the doors and windows, went into the bathroom, and removed her clothes, exposing her body to the air.

In the mirror, she was striking and alluring, a vision of beauty. She lay in the bathtub, letting the warm water engulf her, and slowly closed her eyes.

At that moment, Mason, who had driven to the vicinity of the estate, suddenly noticed a white figure standing in the road ahead.

The figure in white, wielding two swords crossed in an X-formation, stood motionless in the middle of the road, leaning slightly forward in a combat stance.

"Storm Shadow!"

Mason's expression turned grim. He had intended to draw Storm Shadow out by provoking the Baroness, but he hadn't expected the situation to spiral out of control, resulting in General Hawk's death and complete mission compromise.

He now had to risk initiating a backup plan.

"Want to play chicken?" Mason's face hardened, and he slammed the accelerator, charging straight at Storm Shadow!

Compared to Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow was more of a purist—he even disdained using firearms. He produced a series of throwing stars with a flick of his wrist, then, using the power of his core, spun and launched them.

Thunk! Thunk!

After two sharp sounds, Mason felt the front tires blow out, and the car began to swerve wildly. He gripped the steering wheel with both hands like steel vices, barely maintaining the car's trajectory as he continued to ram Storm Shadow.

Storm Shadow remained calm. When the car was just meters away, he leaped high into the air, avoiding Mason's charge and plunging his long blade into the driver's seat.

The roof was pierced like paper by Storm Shadow's katana, which grazed Mason's cheek, leaving a deep gash. Distracted by the pain, Mason lost control, crashing the vehicle into a tree.

Storm Shadow landed gracefully, blade still in hand, and walked slowly toward the wrecked car.

Mason kicked open the jammed door, drew his pistol, and fired three shots in rapid succession.

Clang! Clang! Clang!

A series of metallic ringing sounds echoed. Mason's eyes widened—this guy had actually deflected his bullets with just two swords.

It wasn't that Storm Shadow's blade work was faster than the bullets themselves; he had simply anticipated their trajectory by reading Mason's arm movements and gun position.

Even so, his reaction speed was absolutely inhuman.

Mason stood his ground, pistols raised, rounds erupting from the barrels. Storm Shadow, incredibly, neither dodged nor retreated, brandishing his twin blades and charging through the hail of gunfire.

Even when a bullet or two got through, they couldn't penetrate the advanced materials of his white tactical suit.

While watching the film, Mason had thought Storm Shadow's ninja attire was purely ceremonial, but it was clearly constructed from cutting-edge materials, technology far ahead of standard body armor.

Finally, Storm Shadow closed the distance. He sliced Mason's pistol in two with his sword, then, with a fluid twist of his wrist, delivered a powerful, sweeping slash at Mason's face!
