Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 Miss Clayton

Ciles Noel hitched a ride.

The woman introduced herself as Angela Clayton, and Sirius addressed her as Miss Clayton.

Miss Clayton came from a distinguished family, though she did not reveal her background. She had come to this place through a friend's introduction, but she was vague about her friend's identity and did not explain clearly.

Soon, the person Miss Clayton was waiting for appeared.

He was a tall man, around thirty years old, with an average appearance. His most striking features were probably his magnificent robe and his radiant smile.

"Welcome, my lady!" he said to Miss Clayton, then noticed Sirius's presence and asked, "And this gentleman is?"

"Cilles Noel," Cilles introduced himself politely, "I have come with the same purpose as Miss Clayton."

He took out the business card that belonged to Morton that he had received.

The man peeked in, nodded, and said with a smile, "Welcome, Mr. Noel and Miss Clayton. My name is Carole Hausman. You can call me Carole."

Carroll was an outgoing and cheerful man; he was an officer in the Historical Society and an associate of Joseph Morton. Meanwhile…

Carol said mysteriously, "I am also a guide for some of the Revelationists."

Miss Clayton maintained her excited and nervous demeanor as she followed Carroll up the spiral staircase.

Carol noticed that Ciles had a lot of belongings with him, so he first took Ciles to an empty room on the second floor to store his things. Afterward, he took the two of them to the top floor.

Ciles noticed the building's antiquity and heaviness; the dark brown sheen of the floor carried a sense of age and sophistication, as if one had to be careful with every step.

Stepping onto such a floor and heading to the top floor of the History Society left Miss Clayton with an almost flattered expression.

Ciles' expression remained calm and composed.

He speculated that the Revelation was the "extraordinary power" of this world, which wasn't surprising. But could such power be obtained simply from a business card?

This means that the extraordinary powers in this world are semi-public in nature, and that they are endorsed by official forces.

Ciles couldn't help but feel a little troubled.

What troubled him even more was that he keenly realized that he was able to get this business card because he had mentioned his research on the literature of the Silent Age in that antique bookstore, which led Grenfell to give him the business card.

However, the Silent Literature major at Ramifa University is not an uncommon major.

The original owner had studied this profession for many years but had never received an invitation from someone with extraordinary abilities; yet, upon his arrival, he received one immediately? This seemed rather unusual.

Is it related to his time travel?

Or is it...?

Ciles suddenly remembered his assessment before he discovered the antique bookstore.

He pondered for a moment, wondering if his investigation had been successful, which was why he was able to enter the used bookstore. In other words, it would be impossible for an ordinary person to discover the existence of that bookstore.

Indeed, the original owner of this body had lived in that neighborhood for over a month but had never noticed the existence of that antique bookstore. With his professional expertise, he should have gone in and taken a look when he came across such an antique bookstore.

But he had no recollection of Glenfield Antique Bookstore.

...So, there are certain thresholds and prerequisites for extraordinary powers in this world?

On his way to the top floor of the Historical Society, countless questions and related associations floated through Ciles' mind. However, the moment he stepped onto the top floor, he temporarily put all these thoughts aside.

They arrived at a door at the end of a corridor covered with a brown velvet carpet.

There is a mysterious symbol on the door, resembling an eye, but outlined by only a few lines.

Ciles felt the image looked familiar, and after taking a closer look, he realized that it was a symbol of Antinam, the god of the past and history.

In some myths and legends, as well as in the doctrines of the old church, Antinam is the recorder and witness of all past history. He knows the past, and his gaze can penetrate the fog of history.

Therefore, His symbol is an eye. More specifically, a left eye.

The presence of this symbol here made Ciles realize more clearly that the Historical Society was indeed backed by the Church of the Past.

Carroll stopped in front of the door, then gave a mysterious smile. He said, "Next—you two, don't blink."

He pushed the door open.

A peaceful blue light emanated from the room at that moment. The scene inside was more mundane than Sirius had imagined, but it also exceeded his expectations. Miss Clayton let out a cry of surprise.

They had assumed there was only one room behind the door, but instead discovered a vast space. There were halls, corridors, high ceilings, countless doors, and people in robes walking around.

Carroll observed their expressions and noticed that both Sirius and Miss Clayton wore expressions of surprise. The former's was more subtle, while the latter's was more exaggerated, but they had both indeed seen the space behind the door.

Then Carol gave a genuine smile: "Welcome, the... uh, I don't know how many Revelations you've become. Congratulations on becoming Revelations."

Miss Clayton asked doubtfully, "So this is what it means to become an Apocalypse?"

"Oh, only those who have been revealed can see this scene." Carol led them into the space behind the door. A pale blue light of unknown origin still lingered around them. "If they were ordinary people, they would simply ignore it and think that there was just an ordinary archive room behind the door."

Miss Clayton suddenly realized. She hurriedly asked, "Then why is there such a place?" She rarely disregarded etiquette and pointed to the high ceiling, "This place doesn't look like the original building."

"This was done by the vice president; I don't understand it. It's probably some kind of profound ritual," Carol said. "By the way, the Historical Society is indeed a gathering place for those who have received revelations. The president is in charge of matters concerning ordinary people, while the vice president is in charge of matters concerning those who have received revelations."

Miss Clayton nodded, then looked completely bewildered: "A ceremony? What ceremony?"

Carol shrugged, with a hint of mild mockery: "That's the mystery of the Revelation. Don't rush, look how calm Mr. Noel is!"

Miss Clayton immediately looked at Sirius and, seeing the calm and composed expression on his face, felt utterly ashamed. She quickly coughed twice and put on a nonchalant expression.

Carroll burst into laughter at the woman's expression, his cheerful laugh devoid of any gloom. He said, "Alright, alright, we're here."

They had already made their way through the crowd, where people occasionally cast curious glances, but most simply went about their own business. They stopped in front of a room in the corridor. Unsurprisingly, the door still bore the image of Antinham's eye.

But there's a string of numbers under his eyes: 666.

"Oh… so it's this number." Carol muttered. "It's nothing, just a coincidence. At least it's easy to remember."

Carroll reached out first and shook the doorknob. Then, at his prompting, Miss Clayton and Sirius each shook the doorknob. Afterward, Carroll grasped the doorknob, seemingly gazing intently at it for a moment.

Then he laughed: "Not bad! Exactly six people! Alright, you two are the last two newcomers today, let's go."

He pushed open the door and went inside, with Miss Clayton and Sirius following behind him.

Inside the door was a room resembling a living room, with a fireplace standing quietly and bookshelves reaching to the ceiling filled with books. The room was bright and clean, and four people were already sitting around the sofa in the center, drinking tea, eating snacks, or reading.

It must be said that this cheerful and leisurely scene immediately made Ciles feel a little favorably toward the so-called "revelation".

That didn't seem to be some particularly evil or mysterious supernatural power.

Noticing the three people enter, the four people who were already in the room all looked up.

Ciles looked over and saw that there were three men and one woman. Among the men were middle-aged men who were dressed in shabby clothes and looked anxious, young boys with lively and bright eyes, and young men who were expressionless and seemed a little impatient.

The woman was an elderly woman with gray hair and a kind expression.

Carroll led Miss Clayton and Sirius to sit down, had the six of them introduce themselves, and then quickly got down to business.

"Your gathering here today signifies that you will form a team in the days to come. You will learn together, advance and retreat together, help and communicate with each other until you become qualified and mature mentors, capable of standing on your own."

As Ciles listened, he thought to himself, "So, the learning and growth of extraordinary individuals in this world is similar to a learning support group?"

What are the criteria for judging this process of "until becoming"? Combat proficiency? The ability to handle emergencies? Psychological resilience?

Ciles unconsciously let his thoughts wander, then realized that he seemed to be relying too much on the backgrounds and settings of the online novels from his previous life. He still didn't know what the power of this world was like.

While Cyrus pondered, Carol continued his explanation: "And I am your guide on the path of the Revelation. I will provide you with knowledge, channels and space for growth, and help you master the relevant abilities of the Revelation in a safe environment."

As he spoke, he took a small object out of his pocket.

It looked like a small notebook, but when Carol placed it on the coffee table in front of them, it suddenly swelled into a very thick, antique book under everyone's gaze.

It measures about 50 or 60 centimeters in length and width, and is at least as thick as two hands held upright. This is an exceptionally large book, and it's a mystery how Carroll managed to shrink it down to such a small size and carry it with him.

While everyone else stared in disbelief, Carroll flashed his usual smile. He said, "This is the knowledge you will need to master in the future—master it thoroughly."

The six newly appointed Revelationists looked at each other, all showing hesitant expressions.

Carol said, "The so-called Revelation is someone who uses potions and timelines to draw power and revelation from the past, and ultimately reproduce that power."
