Chapter 57 - Chapter 57: The Value of the Dragon

Alec bowed out, and Aegon looked at Kraken.

"As soon as the news is released, immediately start clearing the pirates from the waters around the Stepstones!

You and Ser Ent will go together, each commanding ten warships, and I will have Sunfyre accompany you."

Hearing this, Kraken immediately frowned.

"Your Highness, the battlefield is very dangerous. You should stay on Dragonstone and oversee the overall situation!"

Kraken didn't want Aegon to go to the battlefield; it was too dangerous.

If a Dragonrider had to be sent, it would be better to let Aemond ride Vhagar into battle.

Vhagar is battle-hardened, and Aemond is the second son, so even if something unexpected happens, it won't hurt the foundation of the Greens!

"I didn't say I was going to the battlefield myself. Sunfyre is very intelligent, well... as intelligent as me, so you don't have to worry about Sunfyre accidentally harming his own people."

Kraken was clearly stunned, then said:

"Your Highness, I know Dragons are intelligent, but I have never heard of a Dragon being able to distinguish between friend and foe without a rider.

Please forgive me, Your Highness, I mean no offense, but if you are truly worried, you can send Prince Aemond with the army!"

"Alright, that's good for training. You two go prepare quickly." Aegon waved his hand, signaling the two to hurry and prepare.

"Your Highness."

Kraken and Ent bowed and withdrew.

Aegon never asked for Ent's opinion during the entire process, and even though Ent had another ten warships' command taken away, he had no complaints.

Anyway, he wasn't good at naval warfare to begin with, and having Kraken there actually relieved him of pressure.

He could just find an excuse later to hand over all command to Kraken, avoid taking the blame himself, and still get some credit—perfect!

After the two left, Aegon personally found Helena, Aemond, and Daeron.

"The island's construction is on the right track. I plan to clear the pirates from the surrounding waters and officially declare my sovereignty to the world."

As soon as Aegon finished speaking, Aemond seized on the key point.

"Are we going after the pirates?" Aemond looked excited, "I'll go, let me go!"

"What are you shouting about? You'll definitely be there." Aegon glared at Aemond.

Aemond ignored Aegon's glare and looked at Daeron with a smug expression.

Recently, Daeron had been very boastful, telling everyone how he had defeated the pirate fleet.

Aemond was already competitive; if he hadn't been forbidden from acting without Aegon's command, he would have gone after the pirates long ago!

"What about Daeron and me?" Helena pursed her lips.

She had been with Aegon the longest and understood him the best.

"You and Daeron will go too. Daeron will be responsible for reconnaissance, and you and Aemond will be responsible for combat." Aegon played with Helena's long hair.

"What? I want to fight too. I've already proven myself, why do I still have to patrol?"

As soon as Daeron heard he still had to be responsible for patrol duties, he immediately objected.

In his opinion, he had already proven everything, so why did he still have to be responsible for patrol duties?

"Haha." Aemond laughed, "Because you're only six years old?"

"A child should have a child's awareness. Leave the fighting to us." Aemond's tone was teasing.

Daeron's face flushed. Children are actually the most concerned about saving face, and Daeron was no different.

Recently, he had been practically floating on air, but then Aegon wouldn't let him participate in combat.

Wouldn't this make him a laughingstock?

He couldn't even imagine how Aemond would provoke him after they achieved victory!

"Letting you patrol isn't forbidding you from participating in combat. This time is meant for you to practice.

However, you must wait until Helena and Aemond are on the ground and confirm there is no danger before you participate, understand?"

Daeron pouted and nodded, "I understand. You're just worried about the dragon bolts, right? To put it bluntly, they're just specialized ballistae. How could they possibly hit a flying Dragon?"

Hearing this, Aegon immediately smacked Daeron's little head and scolded, "What do you know, kid?

Do you think I don't know what dragon bolts are?

A single dragon bolt costs less than twenty gold dragons, and the bolts are even cheaper.

But we only have four Dragons. If something unexpected happens, a thousand or even ten thousand dragon bolts can't make up for it!"

Aegon knew very well what the so-called dragon bolts were; to put it bluntly, they were enhanced ballistae.

He had had craftsmen calculate that if they only bought raw materials and built them themselves, the cost would not exceed twenty gold dragons.

If they directly purchased finished or semi-finished products and assembled them themselves, the market price should be between three hundred and five hundred gold dragons.

No matter how low the probability of a dragon bolt hitting a flying Dragon was, it was not a reason for Aegon to let Daeron take risks.

Vhagar and Dreamfyre are adult Dragons; even if they were hit, as long as it wasn't a fatal spot like the eye or neck, they would be fine.

Tessarion is not.

Even Tessarion's thickest chest armor, if hit by a dragon bolt, has a high possibility of causing him to fall!

If only Tessarion died, Daeron could still try to tame another Dragon.

But would the enemy spare a six-year-old Dragonrider who has fallen to the ground?

Although Dreamfyre's egg-laying frequency is not high, the quality is excellent, not to mention there are many masterless Dragons on Dragonstone.

Therefore, what Aegon lacks most now is not Dragons, but Dragonriders.

He had even considered letting Hugh tame a Dragon, but of course, not one from the Dragonpit; Viserys would never allow such a thing to happen!

Are you kidding? Who in the Seven Kingdoms doesn't know that Hugh is a brute who is completely obedient to Aegon?

If Hugh were to tame an adult Dragon, then as long as Aegon gave the order, Hugh would dare to ride the Dragon and tear anyone apart!

For both emotional and rational reasons, Viserys would not allow Hugh to tame a Dragon.

The Dragon Guard has also been firmly controlled by Viserys, and Aegon doesn't even have the chance to let Hugh secretly go to the Dragonpit to tame a Dragon.
