Chapter 41 - Chapter 41: Winning Over

The banquet began.

Prince Aegon repeatedly declared his sovereignty over the Stepstones to Weimond.

But Prince Aegon soon discovered that Weimond seemed to be on a completely different wavelength, and he wasn't faking it; he truly had no brains!

After a few cups of strong liquor, Weimond became a bit tipsy and started speaking without thinking.

"My uncle must be senile to let that little bastard Lucerys become his heir, even Baela's bloodline is purer than his!"

He was an absolute bloodline purist.

"History remembers more than just surnames; it remembers bloodlines. The Velaryons have never had a brown-haired, brown-eyed heir!"

"Mind your words, Ser Weimond," Prince Aegon said with a serious expression. "While we all know the truth, our words carry little weight in the end. Be careful you don't invite disaster!"

Prince Aegon's seemingly comforting words were actually meant to provoke Weimond, and Weimond certainly didn't disappoint Prince Aegon.

"That whore always calls herself the future Queen, but she's never had the demeanor of a Queen. If she had only given birth to a silver-haired child, the rumors would have dispelled themselves, and I would have no complaints!

Two silver-haired dragonriders coupling and consecutively giving birth to three brown-haired, brown-eyed children is simply throwing the reputation of two ancient houses onto the ground to be trampled upon!"

As he spoke, Weimond gnashed his teeth, as if he could already hear the mocking laughter of the nobles of the Seven Kingdoms.

And that was indeed the case.

For the heirs of two ancient and noble Valyrian houses to consecutively give birth to three brown-haired, brown-eyed children was utterly laughable!

"The key is, what can you do even if you have complaints? You have no lands, no army, and no right of inheritance," Prince Aegon said, smiling as he poured a cup of wine.

"Without lands and an army, you are destined to have no voice. To end up being sent to garrison Bloodstone Isle, exposed to the elements day in and day out, is rather unfair, wouldn't you say?"

Weimond's expression froze, and he took a gulp of wine, feeling somewhat depressed.

Count Coen Velaryon had three sons: the eldest, Corlys, and Weimond's father, who was Count Coen's second son.

According to the laws of Westeros, even if Laenor and Laena both died, the inheritance of Driftmark would still not fall to him.

Moreover, Count Corlys was determined to name Lucerys as the heir to Driftmark.

In Weimond's view, it would be better to name Laena's eldest daughter, Baela, as heir; at least Baela's bloodline was pure and didn't carry the lowborn "Strong" blood!

"Although I am the eldest son, my father was the second son, so the inheritance of Driftmark will never fall to me," Weimond said, his face filled with unwillingness.

"Actually... it's not entirely without hope," Prince Aegon whispered.

"What hope?" Weimond didn't take Prince Aegon's words to heart.

"We all know that bastards have no right of inheritance, and Baela and Rhaenys both bear the Targaryen name."

"So what? Even if everyone knows those three little bastards are illegitimate, even if they are stripped of their inheritance rights, my uncle will still let Baela inherit Driftmark!"

"What about adding the King's decree?" Prince Aegon's lips curved upwards.

Weimond froze, staring intently at Prince Aegon. Suddenly, he seemed to have thought of something, and the surprise on his face was difficult to conceal.

In principle, even the King has no right to interfere in the internal affairs of a vassal house.

But there are always more solutions than problems. Moreover, Baela and Rhaenys both bear the Targaryen name; strictly speaking, they should be considered members of the royal family.

As long as Prince Aegon successfully becomes King and holds power, then Weimond could become the "first legitimate heir" to Driftmark.

However, Weimond was unusually clever for once. He raised his wine cup and toasted Prince Aegon.

"Prince Aegon, thank you very much for your kindness. I'll toast you first, but no one can say for sure what the future holds, can they?

Count Corlys issued an order three days ago for me to immediately withdraw from Bloodstone Isle.

But I believe I absolutely cannot withdraw from Bloodstone Isle before you arrive, otherwise it would be no different from handing it over."

"So that's the case, thank you!" Prince Aegon raised his cup and toasted. "What are your plans after you return?"

"I don't know, I'll rest for a few days first," Weimond said, taking a heavy drink.

"Are you interested in coming to help me fight?" Prince Aegon chuckled, seizing the opportunity to extend an olive branch.

If he could successfully win over Weimond, even if it didn't pose a substantial threat to the Black Party, it would still greatly disgust them.

"If there's nothing else, I will definitely come and help Your Highness deal with the Kingdom of the Three Whores and those savage Dornishmen!"

"Good. If you can come and help me, I believe the Kingdom of the Three Whores and the Dornish savages will certainly be nothing to worry about."

A smile lit up Prince Aegon's face, but inwardly, he was cursing Count Corlys as a fool!

Five days ago, he had just written to Corlys to discuss sending troops to the Stepstones together.

Yet, that old man turned around and ordered Weimond to withdraw his troops. It was truly the trick of a whore!

Disgusting!

Once the Stepstones are cleared, others will pay a ten percent transit tax, but his House Velaryon will have to pay thirty percent!
