Chapter 66 - What freedom costs

Later that evening, Rowan's car pulled up outside the police station for the second time that day.

But instead of getting out of the car after parking, he sat still in the driver's seat for a moment, his hands gripping the steering wheel.

His head was pounding with a relentless ache that made his vision swim.

He had been working nonstop since the lunch with Melissa, meetings, phone calls, negotiations, all to get Lucian out of that cell.

His body was screaming at him to rest, to take his medication, to stop pushing himself so hard. But Rowan was determined. Lucian wasn't going to spend a night in that cell.

Not when it was partly because of him he had landed there.

"Hun." He inhaled and exhaled deeply then forced himself to get out of the car, even though his legs felt unsteady and his eyes were unfocused.

As he walked toward the entrance, his mind drifted back to the conversation he had had with his father earlier that afternoon.
