Chapter 49 - Chapter 49: A Three Way War

The first clash began like thunder rolling across the plains.

After Kael shattered the imperial arrow storm with Absolute Boundary Definition silence lasted only a heartbeat before the battlefield exploded into motion.

The commander of the Varkas Empire roared.

"CHARGE!"

Thousands of soldiers surged forward. Heavy infantry advanced in disciplined ranks while cavalry units swept along the flanks like dark waves crashing toward Kael's formation.

Dust rose into the sky. Steel reflected the pale light of the battlefield.

Rodric stood beside Kael and inhaled slowly.

"Here they come."

Kael did not move.

His gaze remained steady as he watched the approaching forces.

"Yes, here they come, let's go for a win."

Rodric still struggled to understand how someone could remain this calm while facing an army of tens of thousands.

But Kael was not thinking about numbers.

He was studying patterns. The Varkas formation. Their marching rhythm. Their cavalry angles. Their shield spacing.

War at its core was not chaos. It was structure and structure always had weaknesses.

"Shield line!"

Rodric's voice thundered across the battlefield.

The Royal Vanguard Legion raised their shields. Steel locked together.

Behind them skeleton warriors moved into position with eerie silence their bone armour glinting faintly under the grey sky.

Rodric glanced at them briefly.

Three days ago he would have never imagined fighting alongside undead soldiers. Now they stood in the same line protecting the same ground.

The cavalry of Varkas slammed into the defensive formation first. Horses screamed. Steel clashed.

The shock of impact echoed across the battlefield.

Several soldiers staggered under the force of the collision.

But the shield wall held.

"Push them back!" Rodric roared.

His soldiers responded instantly. Swords thrust forward. Spears struck.

Cavalry riders fell from their mounts as the formation absorbed the charge and countered.

Behind the frontline, Kael stood motionless observing and learning.

Shen Yao hovered nearby, watching with quiet interest.

"You're not fighting yet."

Kael replied calmly.

"Not necessary."

Because the war was not decided by individual strength alone.

It was decided by control and Kael intended to control everything.

Kael raised his hand.

The skeleton army immediately reacted.

"Second line advance."

Rows of skeletal warriors stepped forward through the gaps between Rodric's soldiers.

Their movements were rigid but precise.

Each skeleton carried weapons formed from Kael's line constructs blades shaped by glowing white boundaries.

When the skeletons struck their weapons sliced through armour with unnatural precision.

The soldiers of Varkas were not prepared for such opponents.

"Undead!"

"Kill them!"

But the skeletons did not hesitate. They moved without fear. Without pain. Without exhaustion.

And that alone began shifting the momentum of the battlefield.

Rodric watched in amazement.

"They're… adapting."

Indeed.

Every clash made the skeleton legion more coordinated and more efficient.

They began forming their own combat rhythm.

Rodric's soldiers fought like trained warriors.

The skeleton legion fought like a single organism.

Two unique styles yet somehow they complemented each other.

Kael watched everything carefully. This floor was not about personal combat. It was about command, leadership and war.

Across the battlefield the Varkas commander observed the battle from atop his warhorse.

His eyes narrowed "This isn't normal."

The Ardenthal forces were fighting like veterans. But what disturbed him most was the undead army. They were not mindless. They followed commands. That meant someone was controlling them 'Is it a necromancer controlling them? necromancers are extinct and to be found one at this stage its very rare'

His gaze shifted toward the center of the formation.

Toward Kael.

"That man…"

The commander felt something strange when looking at him, his presence which was not only overwhelming, but unsettling. 'Is he the necromancer? But there is no darkness coming from him.'

And if the battlefield itself subtly bent around his existence.

The commander raised his sword again.

"Second wave!"

Trumpets echoed. From the rear ranks elite imperial soldiers advanced.

Heavy armored knights. War mages. Siege crossbows.

The true strength of Varkas had arrived.

Rodric's expression hardened.

"They're escalating."

Kael nodded slightly.

Rodric glanced at him.

"Orders?"

Kael spoke calmly.

"Phase two."

Kael raised his hand slowly. Thin glowing lines spread across the battlefield again. But this time they did not form shields. They reshaped the terrain.

The ground cracked. Small ridges rose from the earth. Invisible boundaries redirected movement.

The charging cavalry suddenly found their path twisting unexpectedly. Horses stumbled. Formations broke.

Rodric's eyes widened.

"You're… reshaping the battlefield?"

Kael answered simply.

"Yes, I am defining it."

Absolute Boundary Definition was not just a defensive ability, it allowed Kael to determine where things were allowed to exist or move.

And on a battlefield even slight changes created devastating consequences.

Rodric immediately understood the opportunity.

"Flank attack!"

His cavalry surged forward through the newly created openings. Imperial soldiers suddenly found themselves surrounded. The battlefield had become a maze and Kael controlled the walls.

From the castle balcony Valor watched silently.

The nobles beside him were already panicking.

"This… this is impossible!"

"How is he controlling the battlefield like that?!"

Valor remained calm. His eyes shone with interest.

"This is so fascinating."

Because Kael was not just fighting. He was commanding the battlefield like a true war strategist.

Even more impressive he was still holding back.

Valor could see it clearly.

That power Kael used was only a fraction of what he possessed. The strategist smiled slightly.

"Interesting so interesting, if he joins our guild, in no time our guild will reach top of the world. He must join our guild no matter any cost even if he is not Line Emperor"

The more Kael revealed the closer Valor came to confirming his suspicion.

Back on the battlefield, the fight grew brutal. Imperial war mages launched fire spells into Rodric's formation. Explosions scattered soldiers.

But Kael immediately reacted.

Thin lines formed barriers that split the flames apart.

Skeleton warriors moved forward without hesitation walking directly through burning ground to strike enemy mages.

Rodric fought at the frontline now. His sword moved like lightning.

Three imperial soldiers fell in seconds. The skeletons were saving soldiers again.

Whenever a human fighter was about to fall a skeletal warrior would intercept the blow.

Again and again.

Rodric realized something profound.

"Even after all this mishap the skeleton knights are still protecting us…"

These undead warriors were not enemies. They were comrades. Slowly the hostility between the two armies began fading.

Then something changed.

From the city walls horns suddenly sounded.

Rodric froze.

"…No."

The gates of Ardenthal opened.

And the kingdom army marched out.

Thousands of soldiers which were fully armoured. Their banners flew high above the battlefield.

Rodric's voice turned hoarse.

"They're going to attack us…"

Kael had predicted it.

The moment both armies weakened the kingdom would strike.

Now the battlefield had become a three-way war.

Rodric turned to Kael urgently.

"My lord…."

Kael simply said,

"I know."

Shen Yao chuckled softly.

"Now the real test begins."

Because Kael was now facing two full armies at once. Most commanders would panic. Most armies would collapse.

But Kael simply looked at the approaching kingdom soldiers.

Then he gave a new command.

"Rodric."

"Yes, my lord."

"Prepare the army."

Rodric tightened his grip on his sword.

"For what?"

Kael's eyes remained calm.

"For the second half of the war."

Rodric realized something terrifying.

Kael had planned for this from the very beginning.

The strategist inside the castle leaned forward slightly as he watched.

Valor whispered quietly.

"Yes…"

"Show me."

Because now the battle had reached the point where Kael would need to reveal something more. Something that would prove whether Valor's suspicion was correct.

The battlefield burned with steel and fire.

Three armies.

One commander.

And Kael was about to make his next move.
