Eve stared at the cheque in Theo's hand as if it were a cursed artifact dug out from an ancient tomb.
Her fingers trembled.
Her eyelids twitched.
Her brain refused to accept what her eyes were clearly seeing.
A cheque.
A cheque that was already signed.
And the amount section…
Was empty.
Blank.
Pure, terrifying freedom.
She swallowed hard, then looked up at him again, as if hoping he would suddenly say Just kidding.
But Theo's face remained calm, his expression as indifferent as if he were offering her a piece of candy.
Eve rubbed her eyes.
Once.
Twice.
Still the same.
She pointed shakily at the cheque.
"Boss…" she whispered in disbelief. "This is a blank cheque… signed by you."
Theo nodded once.
"Yes."
Eve's throat went dry.
"This is a cheque where I can write any amount in that tiny box…" she continued slowly, her voice trembling, "and it will be credited into my account."
"Yes."
Eve's eyes widened further, her mind spiraling out of control.
