Rose nodded with a bright smile. Being able to cook on the mountain, earn money, and stay close to Ethan felt like a blessing after everything she had just endured.
There were more than twenty men. For a single meal, at least five kilograms of rice would be needed. These were all strong bodies that could eat without restraint.
Mary took out a huge iron pot and began washing the rice.
She pointed at the pot and explained patiently, "Rose, when you add water, don't let it rise too high above the rice. If you're not sure, use chopsticks to measure. The water should reach about halfway up the chopsticks."
Then she added, "Start with a big fire. Bring it to a rolling boil, then lower the fire and let it simmer slowly for half an hour."
Rose nodded seriously and crouched down to start the fire. This was her first time cooking for so many people, and it was all white rice at that. Her hands trembled a little from nervousness, but she didn't dare slack off.
