Steven had gone too far. A grown man raising his hand against a woman was already disgraceful enough. Seeing Mary rush in, Ryan was worried she might get hurt, so he stood up at once and followed closely behind.
Inside the room, Kristen had swung the broom several times before it was finally snatched from her hands.
Steven raised the broom high and lashed out at her, cursing, "Damn woman! I'll teach you a lesson today!"
The broom struck Kristen hard, the fabric on her back tearing with a sharp sound.
Mary pushed the door open and rushed in. The moment she saw the scene, her eyes turned cold. She lifted her leg and kicked Steven squarely. Before he knew what was going on, he flew backward and crashed onto the floor with a dull thud.
The sudden pain made him see stars. For a long moment, he couldn't even get up.
Kristen froze. The blows had stopped. She turned around and saw Mary standing there, while Steven lay sprawled on the floor.
Mary… kicked him down?
