Mary lay on the bed to rest. She had just closed her eyes when a knock sounded at the door.
Opening it, she found her neighbor Kristen standing outside. Kristen's face looked pale, her hands clenched together, clearly wanting to say something yet hesitating. It was obvious she had a request, but felt embarrassed to voice it.
Mary remembered the first time she had borrowed rice after her rebirth. As long as it wasn't something unreasonable, she was willing to help. It could be considered returning a favor.
"Miss Kristen, come in and sit," Mary said warmly.
Kristen looked at Mary's gentle expression and felt even more nervous. After hesitating for a moment, she finally gritted her teeth and said, "I… I want to borrow some money."
She really had no other choice.
