Chapter 1 - Bad beginnings

It's strange how easily we look away, convinced the storm will spare our name.

We believe some moments are meant for others, not for us.

But everything arrives in its own hour,

unfolding in the way it must,

quietly inevitable.

On a cloudy Monday morning, Ben is lying on his bed looking at the ceiling, thinking about his first day as a freshman and what it's going to be like. He lets out a small sigh. "Work hard, don't lose focus, be my father's son," Ben says to himself before getting ready. He moved to Bangkok from California to graduate from the same university as his father, studying business so he can take over the family businesses as he is the only son of a multi billionaire. Growing up Ben had no choice but to be the perfect son to his father, following his every rule and instruction set by his father

" I will not have a useless son, doing what you love won't hand you a bag of money and you can't live without money, I have been young before, I have disobeyed, had rebellious phase and it was a waste of time and waste of opportunities ." Said Mr wint.

Ben never had someone to call a friend, never had a lover, and has no high school experience because he was homeschooled, with tutor after tutor after tutor, piano lessons, and swimming class. The only thing he enjoyed was his painting sessions; his paintings are full of emotions and his imaginations. At least he has something he calls home: his painting brush. He's 19 years old now, and he's sent to Bangkok with his assigned caretaker, Wil, who's been with him since he was 9 years old and is trusted by Mr. Wint. Wil has always been concerned and felt sorry for Ben, but he couldn't do anything about it, not that he didn't want to but because he didn't want to disobey his boss. "Now that you are far away from your father, I hope you will get to enjoy your youth and the things you have missed out on." "Said Wil," talking to himself.

That Monday Will drops him off in front of the campus and asks, "Are you sure you don't want me to go in with you?" Ben smiled at Wil and answered, "I'm sure I'll be fine." And walks towards the big building with cherry blossom trees lined up; as he looks around, he sees a small café and heads to it and stands in line. In front of him was a boy about his age facing forward. "This is my opportunity to make a friend." He taps the boy at the back of his shoulder, and the boy turns to face him, and he asks, "Do you think their iced tea is good?" His heart was beating fast as he waited for the boy to answer. "Well, I don't know; it's my first time coming here. I'm guessing it's yours too," he replied. A little smile formed on Ben's face. "Ye, it's my first year. I am Ben, Ben Wi...just Ben." He couldn't bring himself to say his family name. "It's my first year as well; my name is Luke. Nice to meet you."As they were finished ordering and received their drinks, they walked to the main building chatting about the things they enjoy and the things they want to try. They also found out that they both have the same course (business). This was the first time Ben has talked to someone new for more than 5 minutes, and he was really happy and at ease. In just seconds of reaching the entrance his foot caught, the cup flew, and the iced tea arced through the air straight onto someone nearby. Cold liquid splashed their shirt as the cup hit the ground, empty and crumpled. "shit, are you 5 years old, because no grown man would just fall." Shouted the boy ben splashed tea on. " I'm sorry It was an honest mistake, no need to insult me like you don't make mistakes" Ben said.
