PROLOGUE - Field of blood

(POV : ASMARA)

I walked across the battlefield, the sky was the color of blood.

Branches cracked beneath my feet, and my boots were stained with blood mixed with mud.

My white hair was no longer white—matted with dirt.

I felt drops of blood on my face and wiped them away with my sleeve.

I heard someone whimpering. I looked down—some soldier in armor lay there, blood pouring from his mouth.

I gripped the sword I was dragging behind me tighter and drove it into the man's stomach.

I pulled it out, and more blood spilled into the mud, already soaked red. The man exhaled one last time, and then only empty eyes stared up at me.

If they hadn't stood against me, they wouldn't have ended up like this. They didn't all have to die.

They chose their fate.

As if they truly believed they could defeat me.

Their magic doesn't even compare to mine. I am the most powerful being in this land.

I achieved what I always wanted—to be the strongest.

Once, I was the weakest. I didn't know how to defend myself.

But now...

Now a whole field of bodies lies around me. Men and women who tried to stop me, to pull me down from my throne—and failed.

I wipe my bloody sword on a torn cloak and slide it into the sheath on my back.

I continue walking.

Maybe I'm no longer the person I used to be. To gain this power, I had to do inhuman things.

But it was worth it.

Today, I am invincible.

I walk on.

This pile of bodies isn't my fault—they were the ones who got in my way.

I keep walking.

A man steps into my path—red-haired, barely standing. He holds a sword in one hand, and in the other... some kind of stone? I don't

know what it is.

"Aegon. I finally found you. You were the first one I wanted to kill. Where were you hiding, you coward?"

"Today is your end," He sais.

I began to laugh. A deep, horrible laugh tore from my throat.

"Look around you, Aegon. Do you think, after all this, I can't handle someone like you?"

I kept laughing. What could someone like him possibly do to me now?

His betrayal had cut deep. I trusted him. And then I found out he was the one who led the rebellion against me, convincing the other houses to join him.

He raised the stone into the air—it started to glow.

I heard more voices. The other leaders of the houses had appeared around me—Air, Earth, Water, and Fire.

They were chanting something, a spell I couldn't make out because I was in agony.

I felt my power leaving my body.

"No," I gasped, then coughed up blood.

"NO!" I screamed.

I fell to my knees.

I could feel myself losing consciousness.

All I saw was darkness.

If I ever open my eyes again, I swear—

this world will suffer.
