Chapter 6: The Concrete Jungle
I wiped my nose on my sleeve and turned toward the stairs. I was exhausted, but I was Free...
Making my way up the metal steps of the Apartment basement, I push open the door and walk through the lobby.
The lobby was strangely empty.
Making my way to the front entrance, I push open the glass doors and step into the Morning sun of New York City.
The smell is the first thing I notice, The air isn't the ocean breeze of Florida. It smells of hot garbage, Car exhaust fumes, A little bit of urine and some Maryjane.
All of the smells together is enough for me to open my eyes and take a few long blinks. The smell hit harder then whatever killed me.
Not letting any smells stop me I put one foot infornt of the other and ready myself for my new life.
I barely get 4ft out the door and I already feels eyes on me.
'Why is she watching me'
My mind is coming up with different theories on why this girl is watching me from around the corner.
She isnt on her phone or looking at the buildings she is staring at me.
Before I could decide whether to run or just try to blend in, Deloris's old burner phone buzzed in my pocket.
I pulled it out, trying to look like I was just checking the time. The screen glowed with an encrypted message from a blocked number.
"Deloris, why did your apartment just light up like a Christmas tree? And why is your GPS moving toward Midtown? You better have the 'fix' with you. Don't be late."
My breath hitched. They weren't just looking for Deloris. They knew something big had happened at the apartment. And they thought I was her, or at least with her.
I was walking straight into a trap.
I glanced back across the street. The girl was now at a lamppost and was still watching me. Her eyes felt like they were burning into my skull..
Gonna add more but I wanted to get this out before I went to sleep. TBC
