Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Alexandrite

I was there again. Standing at the bloody scene as the sound of sirens and police buzzed in my ears. I watched as the lifeless body of a woman was covered up. I glanced at the blood splattered clock. 3 am. The body is cold. Deathly cold. Fingertips were turning blue, eyes were removed from their sockets, red marks around her neck. Her hair was cold, probably wet. I wrote that down in my notebook. I surveyed the scene again. Looking around. Can't see her clothes, there's rope on the ground and-

I was snapped out of my thoughts when an officer clapped me on my shoulder. I glanced back, glaring at the officer. Of course it's Issac. "What?" I snapped at him. He smiled grimly back at me.

"Still tryna figure it out?" He said in his fake western cowboy accent. Gosh I hate it. Makes all the girls swoon over him. "Found somethin' yet?"

I turned my attention back to my notebook. "Yeah. That girl was strangled then drowned. Or the other way around." I muttered as he peered at my notebook from my shoulder. He was so close I could feel his breath at my ear, sending shivers down my spine. "Personal space."

He snatched my notebook from my hand and I glared at him, still not giving my personal space. "You got all this from just looking at the corpse? No wonder you wear glasses, they give you a better insight on these things. Get it?" He laughed while I just stared at him. "Um," he coughed as other officers looked towards his way. "Whoops." His eyes scanned through my notes as I was starting to think what's the best way to put chilli sauce in his donuts instead of strawberry jam. "What makes you think that she drowned?" He asked me.

"Her fingertips are blue. Her skin is pale. Common signs of drowning. We can do an autopsy later to check for fluid in her lungs. And found her eye balls yet? At least tell me you have identified who she is." I answered it with irritation as he started to drag me closer to the corpse. "Issac." I said warningly when he pulled the cover off her body.

"Look." He yanked me down into a crouching position next to him, pointing at her side while trying his best not to look up at her naked body. There's no point lying to me, I see those eyes looking up and down. I sighed and looked down at where he was pointing. There was a deep wound on her side, probably stabbed into her liver by the looks of it. I narrowed my eyes, bending lower to examine the wound. No infection by the looks of it. Probably wasn't here for too long ago. Another officer approached us, holding the supposed files of the dead woman. He passed it to Issac who scanned through it. "Lillian Lewis, 25 year old female, attended XX University, majored in law." He gave me a calculating look. "Seems basic enough."

"Give me that." I snatched the papers from his hand and read through it. "Seems like we need to infiltrate the University. Not much information here." I waved the papers. "Check for the footage nearby to see if we can identify any suspects or suspicious people that might be involved in this crime. Get blood samples and fingerprints and check for any nearby pools."

"Pools? Looking for a swim?" Issac teased as he stood up. I gave him a say-that-again-and-I'll-punch-you look and he immediately raised his hands up defensively.

"There isn't a private pool in this house and there's a lot of abandoned buildings in the area. Maybe she was dragged back here and the killer cleared his footsteps like that." I retorted.

"Yeah but there would be traces of blood or water on the ground if she was dragged."

"It would've dried overnight. And what if she was drained of blood first? From the wound on her side."

Issac sighed, running a hand through his blond hair. "Fine, you win this round."

I smirked and got up, walking towards the entrance. "Call me when you get something." I left, getting into my car and driving towards the police station.
