Chapter 47 - Back to the Past

The Best Friend Communication Card is a secret treasure from the future, a legendary item. Its true abilities are far more complex than most people realize, and it contains countless unknown powers that must be discovered gradually.

For instance, if two people who possess communication cards share a deep bond, they can communicate across time and space. For a treasure of this magnitude, even time itself is no barrier.

What, then, is the power of miracles? There is no strict definition. With this card, any incredible, reality-altering miracle—even one that defies natural laws—is possible.

That is what makes communication cards so terrifying.

And now, a miracle born from Tosaka Fuyuka's intense desire and deep bond had occurred. Without a time machine, she and Kazuma were sent directly into the past by the power of the Best Friend Communication Card.

"Kazuma… this is…"

Appearing suddenly at a bustling street intersection after leaving the school rooftop might normally be considered spatial teleportation rather than time travel. Yet both Fuyuka and Kazuma realized they had returned to the past.

Not only had the weather suddenly turned cold, but the communication card also confirmed it.

Fuyuka's heart raced with excitement, exhilaration, and shock. Even though she knew Kazuma was far from ordinary and had mysterious abilities, traveling through time still left her in awe.

Isn't this a little scary?

"Yes," Kazuma said, holding the card. Its glow had dimmed but was still faintly visible. "Just like you thought—we've come to the past."

"To be precise, we've arrived at the moment of your father's death. I never imagined the communication card could do something like this, crossing both time and space. It seems there are still many powers I don't understand yet… a true miracle."

Kazuma looked around. Pedestrians carried on as if nothing unusual had happened, completely oblivious to the sudden appearance of the boy and girl. Car horns and the sounds of the city continued to echo around them.

The streets were bustling with people, but the cold wind and the sight of pedestrians bundled in thick winter clothes made it clear that it was still winter.

"Fuyuka, when did your father's car accident happen?"

"Three days from now," Tosaka Fuyuka said, trembling as she glanced at the time on the electronic display. She would never forget this day. "It'll be that night, three days from now."

"Three days… We should have enough time to stay here, but it would be better if we could avoid the danger beforehand. Maybe we could find a way to keep him at home so he doesn't go out…"

Kazuma felt that there were no "time police" in this world, so changing history shouldn't be an issue—or rather, it wasn't really about changing history but manipulating it. Kazuma had a lot of dangerous ideas.

Unfortunately, it would have been much easier if they had a time machine, since the Good Friend Communication Card wasn't meant for time travel.

But wait… if the past could be changed, could that be why Mira Tsubakihara suddenly remembered him? Kazuma was shocked. He had been wondering how that woman knew him. Could it be because he had gone back and done something in the past?

Tosaka Fuyuka was still dizzy and disoriented, as if in a dream. The cold air around her suddenly brought her back to reality. "I'll call my father right now."

The phone worked, but Kazuma stopped her as soon as she reached for it. "Don't rush. Calm down. You still have three days. Instead of calling, we can just go to your house and check on him ourselves."

After he finished speaking, his eyes darted around, and he added with a grin, "Senior, are there two of you at the same time? What would happen if you met?"

"…"

She hadn't thought about that, and Tosaka Fuyuka felt strange at the thought of meeting another version of herself.

"I'm a little curious about that scene," Kazuma grinned.

"You should try it yourself, Kazuma," Tosaka Fuyuka said, equally curious. "Why don't you just go find yourself at this point in time? Where are you right now?"

She was also curious about Kazuma's past.

"Sorry, I'm not here at this point in time," Kazuma shrugged, glancing at his best friend's communication card. "Not just the past, but also the future. Am I the only one in all timelines?"

"Is it because I don't belong to this world, or because of the system…?"

Hearing Kazuma muttering to himself, Tosaka Fuyuka looked puzzled. What did he mean by "nothing"? Seeing that he didn't intend to explain, she suppressed her curiosity.

At night, on a quiet street, in the shadows where the streetlights couldn't reach, a red door appeared out of nowhere. Kazuma and Tosaka Fuyuka, wearing baseball caps, stepped out and looked around cautiously.

With her face hidden under the hat, Tosaka Fuyuka felt helpless, unable to believe that she was about to sneak into her own home like a thief.

But such minor emotions were quickly pushed aside. Entering this familiar yet unfamiliar home while wearing an invisibility cloak, she finally found the person she wanted to see at the dojo.

"Father..."

She suppressed her emotions and didn't step forward. Lost in her thoughts, she silently gritted her teeth. "No matter what, I will…"

Kazuma flew down with a bamboo dragonfly on his head, gestured for her to stay quiet, and then pointed elsewhere. Tosaka Fuyuka looked away and followed Kazuma to the outside of the bathhouse, where she saw another version of herself.

Fair skin, delicate frame…

"My past self…"

Tosaka Fuyuka felt strange seeing another version of herself—but why was she taking a bath?

"Don't look!" she whispered, feeling embarrassed.

"What does it matter? I'm not looking at you anyway."

"…"

Kazuma touched his chin. "But honestly, I didn't expect you to have such a good figure. You can't tell when you're dressed—you only notice once the clothes come off. You're just as impressive as Akane Nanao and Kanna Hiiragi."

He exclaimed, "Tosaka, could you tell me how big it is?"

"I don't know," Tosaka Fuyuka said, covering his eyes, spitting, and blushing as she whispered, "Probably… G cup."

Kazuma said nothing, just gave a thumbs-up.

"We should leave."

"So soon?" Kazuma was surprised. "I thought you'd want to stay forever."

"I'd be happy just to catch a glimpse; it'd be too troublesome if I got caught."

Rational and composed, she took Kazuma's hand. "Kazuma, let's go."

"I'd like to take another look…"

Tosaka Fuyuka's forehead veins were prominent.

"Don't get me wrong, I'm just observing from an academic perspective—checking if there are any differences between you," Kazuma quickly explained. "For example, any time paradoxes!"

Tosaka Fuyuka's eyes clearly said: You really expect me to believe that?

"Tosaka, if I'd been caught spying on your other self just now, would I have been killed? Since you're the same person, you should know, right?" Kazuma asked curiously.

"You wouldn't be killed, but you'd be half-dead," Tosaka Fuyuka said with a playful smile.

"…"

She smiled at Kazuma's speechless expression. "Don't worry, I'll protect you if it comes to that."

"Oh, I'd also like to see you two fight. I wonder who's stronger. Speaking of which, Tosaka, you are skilled with the sword. I have never seen you use it before."

"If there's a chance, I can show you."

The two chatted as they left the Tosaka house. But under the streetlights outside, Kazuma suddenly shivered. "Here's the problem: where are we going to stay the next few nights? It's not like the old school building anymore—it's freezing."

"I still have some money on me. Let's find a motel," Tosaka Fuyuka said, holding Kazuma's hand tightly. "There aren't hotels nearby, only an apartment."

She knew her neighborhood very well.

"Okay, then…"

Just as Kazuma was about to agree, he stopped mid-sentence. He suddenly looked up, opened his system, and saw a bright exclamation mark appear. His mouth fell open, and he couldn't speak for a long time.

No… I've already traveled back in time. How could I still encounter a wish list?

"Kazuma?" Tosaka Fuyuka noticed him lost in thought, waved her hand in front of him, and leaned close with concern. "What's wrong?"

"It's okay, I've changed my mind. We won't stay at the hotel." Kazuma picked up the bamboo dragonfly and placed it on his head. He wrapped his arms around Tosaka Fuyuka's slender waist. Her waist was firm and tight, with visible abdominal muscles. It felt incredible.

"Let's go somewhere else."

Although Tosaka Fuyuka was curious, she didn't ask further. She had long since placed her trust in Kazuma—an unconditional reliance.

She leaned against Kazuma's chest, enjoying the feeling of flying through the sky. Though the cold wind brushed her neck, Tosaka Fuyuka felt warm and snuggled closer to him. After a while, an apartment building appeared before them.

"That's the apartment I mentioned," Tosaka Fuyuka explained, her breath tickling Kazuma's neck. "I heard the original owner passed away. It was inherited by a young woman, but there aren't many residents."

A bright exclamation mark was visible right inside.

"Tosaka Fuyuka, let's stay here," Kazuma said with a strange smile.

"Okay, it's up to you."

This serious, earnest young woman had become increasingly compliant with Kazuma's every whim.
