Chapter 13 - THE TERROR FOR SURVIVAL

.The luxury hotel did not feel like sanctuary. It felt like a gilded coffin.

Marble floors reflected the dim, flickering amber of emergency lights. Whispers echoed down the plush corridors, carrying the scent of expensive perfume warped by the metallic, copper tang of dried blood. Abilities were sealed. Stats were stripped. Here, stripped back to the baseline of fragile, breakable humans, the survivors were nothing more than meat in a maze.

In Room 408, deep inside a narrow service closet behind hanging suits and dry-cleaning plastic, Kyoichi pressed his back against the thin wooden wall. His breathing was shallow, a barely perceptible flutter in his chest. Sweat ran down his temple, dropping onto his collar with the agonizing weight of a falling anvil.

Beside him, crammed under a small utility table obscured by dark, heavy linens, PRB held his breath so hard his lungs burned. His heart thundered against his ribs like a trapped bird, each beat sounding loud enough to tear through the door.

Outside in the hallway, the heavy, rhythmic thud of steel boots approached.

Thump.

Thump.

Thump.

It wasn't fast. The Seeker never needed to run. When you carry a weapon that severs concepts and bypasses defense, speed is an unnecessary luxury. The game was never about running; it was about waiting for the inevitable.

The handle of Room 408 rattled. The wooden door creaked open with a low, agonizing whine.

PRB closed his eyes, his knuckles turning stark white against the dust-matted carpet. Inside his mind, he bargained. He prayed to whatever cold, unfeeling system was watching—prayed for the footsteps to turn around, prayed for a random noise down the hall, prayed for someone else to scream so the monster would leave.

The footsteps entered the room.

Step.

Step.

A soft, scraping drag followed—the blunt edge of the axe carving a slow line through the plush carpet.

The Seeker stopped directly in the center of the room. Silence stretched, thick, suffocating, and terrifying, for three full seconds. The air pressure plummeted.

Then, without warning—

CRASH.

The wooden closet doors were shattered outward in a violent shower of splinters and torn drywall.

"Ah—!"

Kyoichi didn't even get the chance to scream properly. A heavy, iron-clad hand shot through the hanging dry-cleaning bags and clamped around his throat like an iron vise. Kyoichi was yanked off his feet, his heels kicking uselessly against the air, his hands frantically clawing at the thick leather gauntlet choking the life out of him.

Under the table, PRB's eyes snapped open in sheer terror. Through a tiny gap where the tablecloth hung unevenly, he saw everything.

He saw Kyoichi dragged out into the dim amber light. He saw the sheer, unadulterated panic in Kyoichi's eyes—the sudden, crushing realization that his journey ended in a random hotel room, stripped of his powers, helpless.

As Kyoichi struggled, his head turned slightly. For one horrifying fraction of a second, his bulging eyes locked directly onto PRB's through the shadow of the tablecloth.

PRB froze. His soul left his body. He sees me. He's going to point at me. He's going to drag me down with him.

But Kyoichi didn't point. He didn't scream PRB's name.

Kyoichi's lips trembled, blood starting to pool at the corner of his mouth. Without making a single sound, the shape of his mouth formed two clear words:

Don't. Move.

The Seeker raised the massive axe. Cold steel caught the pale emergency light, gleaming with the dark residue of previous executions.

SWOOSH.

A single, clean, horizontal stroke.

There was no grand duel. No heroic last-second awakening. No flash of aura or tactical turnaround. Just the dull, wet impact of heavy steel passing through bone, carpet, and floorboard, followed immediately by the sickening thud of a body collapsing into a lifeless heap.

Blood burst outward, heavy and warm, pooling across the ornate floral pattern of the carpet. PRB watched in silent horror as the dark red stain crept rapidly toward him, soaking into the hem of the tablecloth right in front of his face.

The Seeker stood motionless over the body for a long, agonizing moment, letting the blood drip off the tip of the blade with slow, rhythmic plops.

Plop.

Plop.

Then, without checking the room any further, the heavy boots turned. The Seeker dragged the axe back out into the corridor, searching for the next target.

PRB remained huddled under the table, paralyzed, staring at the warm pool of blood touching his knees, completely consumed by the cold, unforgiving reality of Phase 2.

Is this size and level of descriptive detail closer to what you had in mind for the draft?
