Chapter 9 - "Breaking Resolve"

"Falter into despair." Lucifer said.

Everyone around heard the voice. They were shaken to their core in fear of how powerful it was.

All looked around for the source of the voice before a dark warping portal appeared, squarely before Chamuel. He was instantly snapped from his prayer.

Only Lucifer could move in such a manner—his enlightenment from the fruit gave him such an ability of spatial manipulation.

The dark being stepped out before the army, wings covering his visage before opening to show the Virtue of Chaos. Lucifer stood in front of them all, six-winged extended with a small pair behind his ears.

His finger pointed towards Chamuel and his kin in the making of a snap.

A small dark sigil rested on his index finger.

"Ovliveon," Lucifer stated.

Chamuel jumped back, magnetizing his weapons to his hand. Everyone's faces were twisted in terror; they watched Lucifer's finger ignite with dark-angelic might.

He cast a spell with one simple word, no acknowledgement to the Three Most High?! Chamuel thought, sensing the devastating power that came from one sigil of Lucifer's power.

"Get away!" Chamuel yelled, throwing his weapons in motion of a guard, unable to even cast a defensive spell of his own to mitigate the incoming damage.

The attack would cast an insane, enormous beam of pure dark energy right into Chamuel. He took the full brunt of the attack, with others behind him protected for a moment. However, the attack soon began to peel off and around Chamuel, hitting those who were behind him.

Midra tried to add protection for her Virtue, commanding Keeper's flames to take her once more. She created magic sigil after sigil into the air in front of herself and Chamuel.

The seals immediately disappeared, disintegrating in seconds.

Dragnash grabbed his wife and commanded all to get as far away as they could while Chamuel tried to hold back most of its true force. Midra wondered how Chamuel could even stand there taking all of that power being thrust upon him

As Dragnash carried her away, she realized the answer to her question—he couldn't withstand it all.

His body was being torn apart bit by bit, with the energy of the blast reaching past him and killing anyone that wasn't a Dominion or Power in seconds. Nothing could be done about it, parts of his body evaporating—blood included.

Chamuel's skin flayed and peeled away, muscles beginning to tear from bones on his arms and face. By the time Lucifer had let down his attack—and those that had escaped had gotten away—half the city was now fully gone.

Lucifer's hand hovered in the air with a demonic smirk across his face, holding Pandemonium in his other hand. He held the blade reverse-gripped, allowing his weapon to shake violently with energy.

Midra covered her mouth and cried for Chamuel. Dragnash turned and looked back at the sight, seeing the horror that she was forced to watch due to how he was carrying her.

"I probably should have put more power into that attack, but where is the fun in that?" Lucifer gloated, a small puff of laughter escaping his lips.

The right arm and upper chest of Chamuel's body were completely gone. No bone, nor muscle, nor tendon was left. Blood leaked outside like a faucet that had burst, some parts of his entrails spilling out of that side.

Dragnash released Midra, darting back down to the scene where his father soon collapsed, rushing for Lucifer. He summoned all his hatred and bound it to Vulture, dashing after Lucifer with wild eyes of vengeance.

Midra raced to Chamuel, catching him in her arms. She immediately took to using her flames to begin whatever healing she could.

"Don't move too much; we can't risk any more of your entrails spilling out," she said in a hushed whisper to him.

"He'll…die in a moment, Midra. Take him and leave."

"What?!" Midra asked.

"Take Dragnash and the rest of our people and go—I'll buy you time…My fate is already sealed."

"Then how do you even plan to buy time then?! Look at you!!" She cried.

"What do you think?"

Midra instantly knew what he meant.

She refused to let go of him, perpetually trying to help him. She soon realized that despite all her healing efforts, the injuries he had incurred would constantly burn away right back into oblivion.

Seeing her efforts failing and understanding the crossroads she was at, she bit her lip so hard until she tasted her own ichor.

She decided on the only option she had left to take.

Dragnash traded blows with Lucifer, the Virtue of Chaos not so much entertained by Dragnash, not even acknowledging or striking back to kill him. He could end this farce anytime, but he wanted to find some fun within the canvas he was making.

He let Dragnash do all of what he wanted, not so much as stopping him. When he realized Dragnash lacked any sort of ability to harm him, he parried one of his attacks and poured a disastrous amount of power into Pandemonium.

"Goodbye, Kin of the Fallen," Lucifer said, just about to careen Pandemonium down onto his foe.

Midra arrived out of nowhere and took Dragnash out of harm's way, racing away with him back to where his clansmen had evacuated to.

"Unhand me, Midra!" Dragnash barked at her, but he only felt the teardrops that came from her eyes fall onto his cheek as she flew away with him.

Dragnash looked back to see Lucifer still holding his blade in the air. A large, green, bright light shining over the remnants of the city drew Lucifer's attention, moving his hand to cover his eyes from how blinding it was. From the Light, Chamuel stepped forth with Longinus to his right and Ezekiel to his left, entering his True Angelic Incarnation.

The side that had been erased into oblivion now had a magical, green covering, creating a new arm for him to hold his weapon. His attire lengthened and became far more ornate; his wings spread far and wide. He slowly stepped to Lucifer with a trail of light and green fire trailing on each side; the flames were so large that they flickered across his fallen kingdom.

"Your war is with me, you behemoth," Chamuel said, brandishing both weapons.

Chamuel was ready to avenge his fallen kin.
