Chapter 97 - Chapter 97: No Comparison, No Pain

"This… a Porsche? Is that a Carrera GT?" Li Xingbang, the president of Poly Real Estate, was an avid fan of luxury cars. However, those limited-edition supercars from international markets were nearly impossible to buy in the country—there were no channels to order them. He could only admire them in car magazines.

Wang Zhengde, the president of Greenland Group, stood motionless, staring at the silver Porsche as it slowly passed by. His brand-new 2000 Audi A6 was already considered a luxury sedan in China. But in front of the Porsche Carrera GT, it looked downright outdated—instantly losing all its prestige.

The three real estate moguls watched as the Porsche came to a stop not far away. They were curious to see who would step out of such a rare vehicle.

Just as they were waiting, another car approached the entrance of the International Conference Center—a bright yellow Ferrari Enzo! Right behind it was a pure white McLaren F1, a light green Jaguar XJ220, and a fiery red Ferrari F50!

One by one, these rare, limited-edition supercars—almost never seen in the country—kept appearing in front of the three executives. The sight made them feel dizzy. What was going on? What exactly was happening?

"Where did all these supercars suddenly come from? This lineup must be worth over 30 million yuan!" Chen Yuliang, the president of Jindi Group, glanced at the luxurious convoy in front of him, then at his own BMW 5 Series sedan. He suddenly felt a bit embarrassed. Without comparison, there's no pain.

"Old Li, Old Chen, who do you think has arrived? I don't think anyone in the country can even buy cars of this caliber, right?" Wang Zhengde asked, feeling an unexpected sense of crisis.

Although they were competitors, the sudden appearance of a stronger player made the three of them shift their perspectives.

"No idea," Li Xingbang responded. "I took a quick look earlier, and it seems like all the people inside the cars are foreigners. These foreign investors must be pretty powerful—did they airlift their supercars here just to drive them around?"

He assumed that the fleet belonged to a group of foreign investors.

But before he could dwell on the thought any further, the doors of the cars opened, and instead of wealthy businessmen, a group of foreign bodyguards stepped out in unison.

"Sir, the area is secure. You may exit the vehicle."

The bodyguards gathered around the silver Porsche Carrera GT, waiting for its occupant to step out.

About five seconds later, a young Caucasian man wearing sunglasses, a simple black T-shirt, and light-colored shorts leisurely emerged from the car.

The scene left Wang Zhengde, Chen Yuliang, and Li Xingbang utterly stunned. They never expected that such a massive supercar convoy belonged to just one person.

"Who is that young foreigner? What's his background?" Though they were top real estate executives, they had never encountered a billionaire as extravagant as Mavi before. Taking a trip and airlifting an entire fleet of supercars—just how rich and reckless did someone have to be to pull off something like this?

As the three of them remained puzzled over Mavi's identity, a middle-aged man in a loose black suit emerged from the International Conference Center, his face beaming with a smile. He was accompanied by his subordinates.

This man was none other than Ma Anxiang, the director of the New District Bureau—Director Ma.

"Isn't that Director Ma? Why is he here? I thought site inspections were usually handled by the deputy director," Chen Yuliang murmured in confusion.

To the Bureau of Land and Resources, real estate developers were merely people trying to make a living. If they ever stepped out of line and offended the authorities, no matter how big their business was, they could be shut down in an instant.

"Do you think Director Ma came specifically to receive that foreign guest?" Wang Zhengde speculated.

He initially wanted to greet Director Ma, but to his surprise, the official didn't even glance in their direction. Instead, he walked straight toward the supercar convoy.

The stark contrast in treatment was painful to witness.

"Excuse me, are you Mr. Mavi from Russia?" Director Ma had his subordinate, who was fluent in English, step forward and ask the question.

At that moment, Mavi's female translator stepped in to respond, "Yes, this is Mr. Mavi. And you are?" She was sharp enough to understand the hierarchy at play—since Director Ma's subordinate was the one asking, it was her place to respond.

A man of Mavi's status would only speak directly with someone of equal standing.

"Oh, this is our Director Ma," the subordinate promptly introduced.

"Hello, Mr. Mavi! Welcome to Shangmao!" Director Ma, resting his hand on his beer belly, stepped forward to shake Mavi's hand, hoping to build a rapport. His goal was to strengthen China-Russia relations and attract Russian investments into the country.

This was a direct task assigned from above. Within his authority, he had to do everything possible to facilitate deals—after all, it would be a win-win for everyone.

"Hello, Director Ma." Mavi shook hands with the middle-aged official. At that moment, he realized that pretending to be a foreign guest had its perks. Back in China, people treated him like a national treasure—just like a giant panda.

"Haha, wonderful! Mr. Mavi, your collection of supercars is truly impressive! That must have cost a fortune!" Director Ma's eyes gleamed as he admired the vehicles.

Now he understood why he was instructed to personally welcome this guest. Mavi was loaded—filthy rich. This convoy alone completely outclassed all the real estate tycoons present.

"It wasn't too expensive," Mavi said with a casual smile, shaking his head.

By American pricing, the fleet had cost him about $4.5 million. But that was in North America. Importing them to China meant adding customs duties, consumption tax, and VAT, which would push the total cost up by around 120%, making the final price approximately 80 million yuan.
