For most of Sir Nighteye's Sidekick and Pro Hero career, his Quirk, Foresight, was both a blessing and a curse.
Foresight.
A Quirk that most would consider to be quite a useful one.
Being able to see into the future and make decisions based on that information.
It might even be seen as an Omniscient Quirk.
Though, while there were disadvantages to the Quirk itself, if he looked at it from a third person's perspective, it was a Quirk useful for hero and investigative work.
However.
If there was one drawback, one strong enough to remove most of the benefits of the Foresight Quirk, it was that in his experience, the 'outcomes' displayed by the Quirk were impossible to change.
It was as if using Foresight instantly locked the future in place.
No matter what Sir Nighteye tried, the future he saw could not change.
Even if the buildup might be different.
As long as the future was anchored by his Foresight, that event would inevitably occur.
It was this Quirk which had estranged his relationship with All Might, leading him to start his own Hero Office.
Yet…
There was an anomaly.
It started with a small case he worked on with the Police Force.
He used his Quirk on a suspect to see whether he was truly a criminal in hiding.
While his Quirk's information wasn't evidence on its own, it could still give him a lead.
Though he only used it after he was certain that the suspect had something to do with the case. After all, looking into the far future was something he felt endless fear and guilt over.
Yet, the moment he saw into the future, his Quirk had seemingly broken.
The moment the suspect walked into a specific district, what should have been a simple use of his Foresight suddenly turned into something he had never seen in his entire life.
The suspect's future began to glitch.
Every few minutes, what he could see became overlaid with a layer of the suspect making a different movement, a different decision.
At first, he suspected he was tired.
Then more layers piled up, one by one.
And at some point, even he couldn't tell what he was looking at anymore.
What he saw became an indeterminate kaleidoscope of futures.
Shaken by what he had seen for the first time, he stopped peering into that view of myriad destinies.
This wasn't a one-off scenario either.
It was only after he had deactivated his Quirk, some time had passed, and he checked where the criminal had roamed that he found out what was behind this.
The person might not have had a name when he first witnessed this phenomenon, but the Police Force soon gave it a name.
Blink.
Despite his curiosity flaring up, yearning for an explanation, he didn't know where even to begin.
How?
How did Blink do it?
How did Blink change the future?
Soon, a sense of hope slowly arose.
If it were Blink… maybe, just maybe, the future he had seen and locked in place would no longer come to fruition.
He didn't even need to get close to Blink either.
While he didn't have an opportunity to look into All Might's future after this discovery, and he wouldn't do it again even if he had another chance, he had seen it.
A large number of people he had used his Quirk on after that first event had new layers develop over time.
But at some point in the future, that number drastically skyrocketed.
By then, even All Might's future might diverge from that horrible ending.
And that future…
That accursed future he had made inevitable…
Would change.
If Blink were caught, despite the probability being almost zero, there was still a chance.
What would happen then?
Even if it was selfish.
Even if it was not on the 'right' side of the law.
He, Sir Nighteye, would defend, or even protect, Blink.
Even if Blink was a Vigilante… who could deny their contribution to society?
Even if Blink had overstepped his station by not only capturing Villains or Quirk-crimes, but every crime in the law, not limited to domestic violence, Quirk-hate crimes, and even pickpocketing.
The numbers spoke for themselves.
Additionally, it had already been shown once before that Blink themselves could render an entire group of Pro Heroes immobile.
This was completely doable.

"I believe we should negotiate."
Sir Nighteye remained stoic as the entire room turned to him.
Even before Pro Heroes and administrative figures above him in authority, he did not back down.
"While Blink is undermining the Hero System through vigilantism, we still know next to nothing about Blink beyond their usual areas of operation."
To convince them, he had to appease them and rely on facts so they would not think he supported Blink, even if he did.
"This may seem like the only chance to learn more about Blink, but the threat is just as broad."
Tsukauchi Naomasa, who also leaned toward negotiation, nodded in support.
"Yes. Other than the time limit of 24 hours, the threat only consists of four words: 'Judgment will be delivered'. There is no place, no target, nothing."
That statement gave pause to those opposed to negotiation.
"Wouldn't it be implied that the target of the 'Judgment' is Midnight? She was the person who talked to Blink."
Madam President asked.
"That's unlikely. Blink isn't stupid enough to target one cog."
Midnight still replied calmly, despite the implication that Madam President would use her as bait if it were true.
"Blink mentally kept me on the backpedal for the entirety of the interaction. They're either a natural at intimidation or they have experience. Someone like that wouldn't just target me."
"I'm not saying this because I don't want to be used as bait." Midnight added.
"Midnight is correct." Sir Nighteye nodded. "Just targeting Midnight doesn't fit Blink's usual modus operandi."
"But Blink has already strayed from their modus operandi by capturing and 'saving' that Villain." Endeavor frowned. "There's no telling whether they will stray again."
"The point still stands that Blink is still a complete unknown, from their abilities to their physical profile," Sir Nighteye countered. "And from Blink's display at the Sky Egg, is there a Pro Hero here that believes that they have a chance?"
The room went silent.
The Pro Heroes who had personally experienced the Sky Egg Incident knew they were hopelessly outmatched.
"There is no need to antagonize them. We can treat this as a precedent and make further decisions based on whether more scenarios occur."
Sir Nighteye proposed.
There might have been urgency to catch Blink, but this was reasonable.
"What about the girl? What if she has more information about Blink?"
The Commissioner General asked.
"She was unconscious when Blink negotiated with Midnight, and it's unknown when she'll regain consciousness," Tsukauchi responded.
The Commissioner General nodded in dissatisfaction. There really was not much of an option.
"Then is this meeting adjourned?"
Endeavor asked, clearly unsatisfied with the meeting's outcome.
"For now, everything that needed to be said was said."
Tsukauchi nodded.
"Tsk."
Endeavor clicked his tongue.
So, in the end, they were deferring to that criminal.

Additional Cypresss's Musings: This'll be a long end thing, but it does have some lore relevance(but no spoilers so don't worry) if you so wish to read.
As an Author who is trying to 'decipher' but more or less trying to rationalize Quirks, which seem to change depending on plot convenience, I usually put parallels based on similar abilities.
Sir Nighteye's Foresight and his plotline is actually eerily similar to Miyama Shaei from the Toaruverse, who can see the future through Third Dimensional calculations and can't change them so they both despair over it.
However, Shirai Kuroko can change the future that Miyama Shaei predicts because she uses 11th Dimensional calculations as a Teleporter, which is a higher Dimension than the Third.
And the occasions that Nighteye's predictions don't come true are similar in canon as well. The two occasions where his Foresight didn't work is All Might's death, and Midoriya Izuku's death. Canon says they were done because of 'everyone's wishes,' but that's way too unscientific for me, even in a fictional world.
The only similarities between the two is the application of Eri's Quirk, Rewind, which, as seen in its name, rewinds a living being's body back to it's 'previous state,' essentially moving that living being back the axis of time. And in most scientific frameworks, Time is considered a higher Dimension, or more commonly also seen as a 'Fourth Dimension.'
So I hypothesized that Foresight works on a similar plane to Miyama Shaei's Photo Precognition.
And similarly, every Teleportation that Isshun does in the vicinity of a subject that Foresight sees, adds a new variable separate from Foresight's original prediction, which is the layer that you see. Which is how the first part came to be.
This isn't some bullshit plot stuff I added for the sake of it. I actually put some thought before adding this(and I'm proud of it so I'm bragging).
And this info will never be told through the plot cause its a long ass explanation and it wouldn't even fit anywhere logically. But I put too much thought into this to not make this known.
