Chapter 26 - 25

The squad introduced itself to Wernia. She heard them and drank her tea. Then she got up. She gestured for them to follow her. They finished their tea and followed her outside the hut. The squad walked through the cave, right behind Wernia. She led them to a place that had numerous stones.

"Come here," She said to Felmer.

Felmer nodded and got near her.

"Go sit there and find the clue…" She said, pointing to a flat stone in the ground.

"How?"

"Sit there, and find the clue…"

"Find the right rock?"

She nodded in response. Felmer still didn't understand. He decided not to argue and sat on the flat rock. Felmer sat and began to look at each rock. He couldn't understand.

"Find the right clue…Couldn't he just topple all the rocks and find it…" Melfer asked Wernia.

"You think I will let him?" She smiled.

Melfer understood the rules.

Felmer looked for some time, and then he decided to ask again.

"Sorry…But I understand nothing…"

"You have to focus. And find the rock emitting the correct wave of magic. That stone has the clue."

Felmer still didn't understand. He closed his eyes and began to focus. He sat for a time…But there was nothing. He couldn't feel anything. He tried again and again. But there was nothing. He kept trying for a long time. And soon, noon came. He was tired. He got up and went back.

"I see or feel nothing…" He said to Wernia.

'This boy needs a lot of training,' Wernia thought.

She signalled them and led them back to the hut. She again gave them the same tea from the morning. To their surprise, the tea was still hot.

"The badge was formed for the descendants of Lord Emayla. He didn't need it as he directly touched the particles. After his death, it was broken into four pieces and given to four skies." Wernia told them.

"So why are there five?" Elna asked.

"The reason for that, you will find in your journey and discovery."

"Why are you alone? And have you been here for a century?" Melfer asked.

"I wasn't alone. Each sky was the leader of a tribe. The folks of the tribe were massacred by the king's army. I am not a human. I am a memory fragment. Hence, I survived the massacre. I remain here in wait for the Gorbin's man whom Lord Emayla saw in his vision. And after our purpose is fulfilled, we will disappear. And appear again when we are needed." She said, looking at Felmer. "Are you ready to try again?"

Felmer finished his tea and nodded.

She led them back to the rocks, and Felmer again sat on the rock. He sat there trying to feel the magic of the rocks. He sat and focused for a long time, but he still failed. He began to give up. He couldn't understand what he had to do. Time passed, and soon night came. Still, there was nothing.

"You seem tired…Rest…We will try tomorrow." She said and went back to her hut.

They went back and again were served with the same tea. They drank it and slept. But Felmer couldn't sleep. He wanted to run away. Like many times, he was giving up.

He looked at his companions. They were all fast asleep. He got up, picked up his sword and decided to leave the hut. When he arrived at the door. He saw the lady sitting on the floor, legs crossed, and her hands on her knees.

Felmer thought she was asleep. He headed for the door, but he was called. He turned and saw Wernia looking at him.

"Running away?"

"Uhh…No…" Felmer replied.

"Come here, sit…" She said,

Felmer couldn't refuse. He went near her and sat.

"Many had given up. And I had let them go. But…I could feel that you would waste yourself if you ran away."

"I don't understand what to do…"

"In ancient times, there was a type of meditation. In that, one would sit and focus. At that time, people thought that there was a central point in the mind, where all thoughts and everything in the mind converged. They focused, deeply felt and understood their environment. When magic came, one could see all the things emitting a particular wave of magic." She stopped.

"So…I have to look for that?"

"Yes…You have to concentrate. Your mind is always in a rush. I could feel it. You have to understand your surroundings and concentrate accordingly. It won't just help you find the clue, but also help you understand the blade."

Felmer had begun to understand. He looked down and slightly nodded.

"So…Would you run now?" She asked.

Felmer looked at the lady and smiled.
