Chapter 17 - 16

The next day, Felmer woke up and left his room. He sat with everyone and had breakfast.

"How's your training going?" Felmer asked Flexin as he took a bite.

"It's going…Fine."

"You always had better control of magic than I…So I hope you will get recruited into the army."

"Well…I will see."

"How's your work going? Both." Marnis asked Felmer.

"Hmmm…Both are just…going fine. The politics is the same. The military is the same." Felmer held many things. He had become secretive as he worked under General Ednita.

"Be careful…I hope you remember my words."

"Yes…Words are better than blades."

"Correct…Keep them in your mind."

Then there was a knock. Benny got up and opened. Then he came back with a letter.

"There is a letter for you, brother," Benny said as he handed the letter to Felmer.

Felmer placed his food on the table, wiped his hands with a cloth and opened the letter.

"What is it? A love letter?" Flexin asked.

"Shut up," Felmer replied as he opened the letter. "Who gave it?"

"A soldier from the capital."

"Oh…" Felmer understood.

He read the contents of the letter, then rapidly ate his breakfast and got up, while signalling Melfer.

"Is something wrong?" Marnis asked.

"General told me not to share military information with non-military people," Felmer said with a smile.

Marnis smiled back. He understood that Felmer was summoned to the capital by the general.

The two took their gear and were leaving the house.

"Safe travels," Emilia said to them.

"Give him my regards," Marnis shouted.

"I will," Felmer shouted back.

The two headed to the stables and took out their horses. Elna and Irnik were already there. The squad rode to the capital. Upon entering the capital, they rode straight to Raftin's office building. When they entered the throne room, there was a messenger present, Falvarian.

The squad walked forward and stood beside the general.

"Well…now you may speak," Raftin said to the messenger.

"The first prince of Falvaria, Rinfis Falva, and his fleet will be arriving here today at noon. The king, Larnet Falva, under the peace treaty, wants you to allow them passage and escort them to the border." The messenger closed the scroll and looked at Raftin.

"If my history is correct, that's how your king and our late lord became friends…" Raftin was interrupted by Felmer.

"And then nearly killed each other. Well, they did kill." Felmer was smirking,

"By not allowing, you are questioning the authority of the king and the contents of the peace treaty." The messenger replied.

"Rather than that, I am questioning the audacity of your king to send this letter and order us." General Ednita replied.

"Okay…then I will go back and give him your words." The messenger said and turned.

"Wait…We didn't deny or accept." Raftin stopped him.

"Give him my regards as well," Felmer smirked again.

The whole squad was smiling as well. The messenger had a slight smile as well. But Raftin's face was turning red.

"We both are bound by the treaty, and we have no hostility against your king. Rest assured, we will allow passage, and they will be escorted by our best soldiers." Raftin accepted.

"Fine…" The messenger nodded and left.

Felmer did as well, and the squad followed him.

"You forget what I told you last time." Raftin stopped Felmer.

"Yes, I did…"

Raftin sighed and slightly shook his head. "You will take part as?"

"As a member of the special squad, Children of Gorbin, led by Elna Gorbin, the second in command of the Archer Battalion." Felmer stared directly at Raftin.

"Fine…Soldier."

Then the squad left the room. The general left as well, and outside, he stopped them.

"Go to the head village, Shirels. Irfika is there as well. The party will take the shortest route; bypass the western district, and leave through the southern border." The general informed.

"We will head straight to Shirels," Elna replied, and the squad left the building.

They rode their horses and moved down the mountain. As planned, they didn't go to Nolos and took the road to Shirel. Their horses galloped through the central lush plains, and after an hour or two of travelling, they arrived at Shirel. There was quite the hustle and bustle, as many fleets arrived here from the north. They went straight to the military office of Shirel and met with General Irfika.

"Ah…You are here. I was waiting for you." The general said as he took a sip of his tea.

The squad nodded and sat on the chairs on the right of the room.

"The fleet will arrive shortly. Their royal guard joined them this morning. You four will escort them to the border."

"If they have their royal guard come all the way from the west and join them, then why do they want to pass through Cerfis. Just take the same route back. Why bother us?" Elna objected.

"It is shortest through here. Well, the royal guard thing is odd. We can't do anything. Just escort them and get rid of this matter." The general took another sip.

"Stupid…" Elna commented.

"Can we do anything? Can we?" The general asked.

"No…"

They all knew that they had no way around. They just had to accept their mission and complete it. The time was near, and they were prepared.
