Chapter 113 - Chapter 113 ‘Longest Ride’

"Thanks for that." Charles said slightly. We walked all the way to the apartment building. The one Seris lived in.

"I have to ask you, have you heard about the Murat situation?" Edward asks.

"The Murat head of the family has died." Charles said.

"The death of Levi Murat is regrettable but his younger brother Tai Murat has taken over the family. Killing several rivals including the wife of the late Levi Murat." Edward said. We walked into the building.

"That's brutal." Charles said.

"It is common practice to kill off your rivals. The Vampire sadly don't have Succession wars. Because when they die either the second man in charge takes over. But the highest ranking ones can leave if they want." Edward said sadly. It was true Vampires when their bloodline is broken that they either knee to the next strongest or leave. But when another Vampire takes out their rival, they will drink his blood and join that Vampire. It was part of culture that the strong lead the weak.

"Yeah, like the Pendragon we have duels and if you lose then you serve the winner for a week." Charles said. Yeah not that how Carime gave Charles Jackal when he beat him black and blue. Also how Apollo got that damned painting.

"Yeah they have a lot of overlap with Vampire and Demi-human culture." Edward said with a small smile on his lip.

"I know it's kinda cool. But strangely they must feel lonely because they have hidden behind their riches." Charles said his voice was calm. He looks around.

"Yeah I know. Being strong is the same way. Hellsing must have been lonely at the top." Edward said with a soft sigh.

"Yeah but quick question: why is no one here this is an apartment building?" Charles asked, looking confused. Edward smiled then started to laugh.

"This building is older than the City Alliance meaning out of its jurisdiction like the Pendragon manor. Hellsing used to live here with the most senior members of the Division. But they slowly died and no one but me, your brother, Weapon and Senor Chain lives here." Edward said he had a look of melancholy on his face. As the elevator dinged and opened. Weapon was standing but when he saw Charles he snarled.

"Get in." Weapon said. Edward nodded.

"Why are you so mad?" Charles asked weakly, he looked shocked that Charles noticed.

"One of my top students that goes to the school I helped found just got beat to bloody pulp and I just heard." Weapon said. His face was flushed with fury. As the elevator closed with a soft click. Then it started to rise. Charles tilted his head.

"He's talking about you." Edward said softly. Charles and I looked more confused.

"What do you mean?" Charles questioned.

"The second Division, also called Silver Slayer, handles public protection like military police for strong individuals and criminals like Huntsman, Doctor Despair or Hellhound. But they also run the school. As their Commander he is the president of the school." Edward said with no intention of being quiet. Weapon seemed enraged at the comments.

"You should have told him nothing." Weapon said. As a ding. We passed the first floor.

"Why?" Charles asked weakly, breaking out in a strange whimper of pain. Weapon looked concerned instantly. His eyes were as wide as dinner plates.

"Looks like someone has a soft spot." Edward said. A small smile. He was mocking Weapon.

"You don't. If he ever broke a law I would let it slide but he would have made it up to me." Weapon spoke. Charles' eyes were covered by his hair.

"What if I was the Doctor Despair." Charles said. His eyes were on the floor.

"Then we would have to talk." Weapon said.

"Okay." Charles said.

"On happier topics. The tournament's next match is tomorrow. Pluto Hades vs Milla Calamitas." Edward said with a smile.

"That will be fun. The girl you recommended vs the servant of the Dragon." Edward said with a smile. Weapon also smiled. Charles gritted his teeth. His knuckles were white.

"I was thinking of sending an offer to Pluto." Weapon said.

"Recuiting a first year. I wonder what Cody will say?" Edward said.

"That brat can stuff it. He sucks up to the City Lords and any Noble family." Weapon said with a sigh. It seems like there is a grudge there.

"You're just mad that he took Chain spot at Division 3. It's not like Chain could keep up with the points of a whole Division if he was to recruit more people then he would most definitely rise to number 3 again." Edward said with a serious tone. His eyes were sharp.

"Yeah but Chain was a real one. He may be the oldest of us but he is the best of the three of us." Weapon said. He must be remembering his past.

"Remember we can only take in 700 new hunters a year for each Division. There is no minimum he has been taking zero." Edward said.

"Yeah fair." Weapon spoke in a low tone.

"Wait, what do you mean by the number 3 spot?" Charles asked. Both Weapon and Edward let out a sigh.

"Do you not pay attention to orientation?" Weapon asked. Charles shakes his head.

"Sorry in the middle of being beaten bloody by Seris I must have not paid attention to what he was saying." Charles said with sarcasm. Weapon and Edward looked sheepish.

"Well sorry about that." Weapon said.

"I thought you knew?" Edward asked.

"You forgot how much he hates doing paperwork he would never file anything." Weapon said with a smile. Once again we heard a ding as we passed the second floor.

"Is my question going to be answered?" Charles asked. Looking a little shy if he should interrupt the two. Those two looked at him for a moment. Then Weapon motion at Edward. Edward shakes his head.

"So divisions are split into ranks. The lower the rank the higher their status. Division 4 to Division 7 are constantly changing every year. But the reason why Chain sat at nine was because he was giving most of his points to Division 5. He also has no members except him." Edward explains Charles nodded.

"Well then on other topics. Demi-Humans." Weapon spoke with respect and tiredness.

"Anima Virus outbreak." Edward guessed.

"That and the slum crime was on the rise. It seems like there is a power vacuum. I can't believe I will say this but I miss Doctor Despair and Hell Hound." Weapon said. His eyes looked tired.

"Anima Virus outbreak!" Charles said as with panic then he slummed again losing his strength. Anima Virus a disease that only targets Demi-Humans. It causes their X chromosome to go wild. If untreated it causes Demi-human to lose control and rampage, killing everything in sight. It makes Vampire hunting harder as Vampire would lure them into populated areas of humans letting them devour and kill civilians to give them Chaos to feed.

"Yeah and the only way to get it is a cure from the north but Pendragon trades are a famous expense. Due to them not liking to trade." Weapon snarled. Sebastian does this for two reasons: one, it makes humans suffer and it also inflates the price of the cure since the one ingredient they need can only live in the northern mountains. Giving him a monopoly. Allowing his children to sell as a black market good for tons of tokens. Edward let out a sigh.

"Remember it there land. The Black market is our only hope." Edward said. Once again Charles gritted his teeth well when the Pendragon manor attack happened. They hit his supply of Anima cure.

"It is like a perfect attack. First they attack the Pendragon to make them reinforce their security rather than places where the cure was." Charles grimaced, his rage boiling. The elevator beeped again as we passed the third floor. Weapon faces went through multiple emotions. Shock, Anger, Acceptance and a smile.

"Yeah, almost like they knew where the soft points of Doctor Despair are?" Weapon asked.

"Yeah." Charles said. His face was grim. Only five people knew where Doctor Despair kept his stash of Anima cure. Me, Charles, Jackal, William, Arthur. The only other place they would have is in Charles' desk. That was locked by a blood seal.

"Almost like they have an inside man." Edward spoke. His voice was cold. He must not like traitors. I wonder why? Was he betrayed in his past?

"Yeah." Charles spoke. His head hung low. almost as if he was asleep. We heard the elevator ding in the silence of the room.

"Have you read the Hunter's Codex?" Edward said.

"Don't remind me his brother literally breaks every rule in it." Weapon said. How would have thought that Seris would be such a rule breaker.

"Why is it allowed to break?" Charles asked.

"Well it is because it is the Hell Knights and Golden Gale that are in charge of enforcing it. But when it comes to S-ranks it get hazy because of their usefulness to the system that means they can get away with almost anything." Edward said with an awkward chuckle.

"Some bandit attacks are happening near the ruins of Royku village. They took up camp there." Edward said. Weapons frowned.

"You mean the village of Dragon Shifter?" Weapon asked. With a small shrug.

"Yeah shame they got destroyed by an army of vampires after Hellsing killed a great Dragon." Edward said his tone was somber. Yeah he is the only Dragon Slayer in all of human history. Another ding we past the fourth floor.

"Yeah I heard it was quite the battle." Charles said. His head lowered.

"It was. Lux was a strong Greater Dragon." Edward said. His voice was that of a smile. Lux is an Elder Dragon, the twin sibling of Umbra.

"Lux?" Charles said, noting that down for later. As Grandfather said he was the son of Lux. The Elder Dragon of Light.

"Yeah it forced more Greater Dragon under it." Weapon spoke. That explains why there were four Dragon Generals.

"Hellsing journal stated: A Dragons hierarchy backed by strength. At the top are Elder Dragons, the progenitors of everything. Dragon Gods are those who serve as the direct underling of the Elder Dragons. Then one step down is a Dragon Generals, those are unstoppable calamities that rarely cross from the chaos realm. Then the normal Greater Dragons." Edward said. How did Hellsing know so much about Dragons? It took my brother countless centuries and almost dying countless times.

"You know what's terrifying?" Weapon said.

"What?" Charles asked. Weapon smiled at him. Charles looked confused.

"Elder Dragon and Dragon Gods, Dragon Generals are immortal; they will be reborn with their memories. It is truly terrifying they have lived for countless eons. They know more than anyone could hope." Weapon said with a dry laugh.

"No after or before Hellsing has killed a Greater Dragon." Edward spoke.

"It is a feat only belonging to him." Weapon said. I saw Charles knuckles go white.

"Yeah I get it he is an amazing god." Charles spoke, rolling his eyes. Weapon and Edward froze. Then Weapon let out a small chuckle. Edward hits him in the gut.

"Not funny." Edward scolds him. As then another beep echoes within the elevator it seems like we past the fifth floor.

"Fine." Weapon grumbles.

"Please just try and not say that in front of the wrong people." Edward speaks softly like talking to a child. Charles slightly nods.

"Well then see you another time." Weapon spoke waving as another beep echoed within the elevator. It slowly opens. Weapon walked out without a care in the world. As we got back Seris carried Charles to bed.

"You have to rest up for tomorrow." Seris said as he shuts off the light. I was hanging off of a coat hanger.
