In 276 AC (After the Conquest), heavy snow fell in the North, the white mist spread Beyond the Wall, and the Winter Wolf Army was assembling.
The Northern Coalition Army, composed of the homeless, the childless, the unmarried, second sons, and the elderly, was led by Old Bear Mormont and gathered in Farwinter. Among them were not only Northmen but also decaying Night's Watch members and wildlings who sought only death.
"The North remembers!"
"The North remembers!"
Bright sword edges lit up, and everyone roared together, the bright blades piled high.
Rhaegar took out his True Dragon sword, placing his sword on the very top.
As Rhaegar looked around, the leaders of the North, the Night's Watch, and the wildlings were all present: the King-Beyond-the-Wall, the Night's Watch commander, Rickard, the leader of House Stark, and himself, the overall commander against the Others.
Rhaegar looked at the Winter Wolf troops; the most elite had already donned obsidian armor. Rhaegar had specifically shipped a large amount of dragonglass from Dragonstone, using it to produce many low-spec versions of dragonglass armor and dragonglass weapons.
"Bring the wine!" Rhaegar said in a deep voice. Tomorrow was the day they marched to their deaths, and these brave men needed the best wine.
So, a dazzling array of fine wines was brought forth: Dorne's summer red, wine from the Reach, wine from Myr, and pear brandy from Tyrosh.
They feasted heartily amidst the fragrance of roasted bread and roasted meat.
Everyone drank their fill of the fine wine together. Today they were heroes; tomorrow they might be wights on a desolate battlefield.
Lord Rickard organized this Direwolf Suicide Squad to show the wights a thing or two, and most importantly, to try and destroy the massive ice throne.
"Tell my son Jorah that I am taking my sword to join the campaign! Even if the sword is broken or lost on the battlefield, I will have no regrets; this is my destiny!" Old Bear laughed heartily. The House Mormont ancestral Valyrian steel sword was the only thing he took when he left.
"Eddard!" Robert cried out in pain. He could only watch his good friend step into the ranks of the Second Sons unit, but the North did not belong solely to House Stark; leading the North through winter was the duty of the wolf clan. Lord Rickard loved his children, but honor would not allow him to keep his own children from participating. Eddard, the second son of House Stark, was a warrior willing to charge!
Rhaegar looked at the myriad faces of life, knowing there was no better solution.
He had transferred grain and reinforcements from Harrenhal, only a portion of which was temporarily crowded into Farwinter. Fighting the wildlings to the death in the vast Beyond the Wall was foolish, but to delay the Night King's attack, they had to attack the ice throne and kill the Others as much as possible.
Heirs of the lords like Rennal, Jaime, Mace, and Robert formed the support troops. For the actual killing power, Rhaegar still needed to lead the Direwolf Suicide Squad, which was essentially a sacrificial unit.
The next day, the cold air spreading outside Farwinter became increasingly fierce, and the white mist between heaven and earth was even more terrifying. Only the dreadful blue throne, standing between heaven and earth, remained.
"Gentlemen, today we will use the arrowhead formation. I will clear the way for everyone with my dragons and fire, and we will charge the ice throne together to destroy the Others' lair!" Rhaegar told the Winter Wolf Army.
"We have practiced those key points many times before, and some soldiers have even participated in small-scale anti-wight battles, so their experience is rich. But I need to emphasize those details one more time," Old Bear said.
"Wights fear fire, and Others hate fire, but they fear dragonglass even more. Others are formidable warriors, whose strength is no less than that of a first-rate master. When encountering Others, remember to stick together, and use cotton or plugs to block your ears, as the Others' sonic attacks are dangerous! Now, advance!"
"Kill!"
"Kill! Never retreat until death!"
"If I die on the battlefield, please burn me immediately. I don't want to turn into a wight and harm the world later on," a soldier quietly told his comrade beside him.
"What are you thinking? We will definitely achieve victory!"
"Farewell, may the gods bless me!" A warrior secretly kissed the holy icon he held.
The Winter Wolf Army was equipped with black dragonglass armor, or low-spec Dragonstone dragonglass armor. Inside the dragonglass was steel armor, making them armed to the teeth. They carried steel longswords, and there were also obsidian swordsmen.
The torches carried by the Winter Wolf Army also carried a hint of dragonflame, as only the fire of the dragon could sustain light for a long time within the god of cold's white mist; ordinary flames would quickly extinguish.
"Kill!" Following the sound of the horn, old giants lifted massive logs, and the Winter Wolf Army surged past Farwinter and began sweeping forward.
"Boom!" The dragon group roared, and brilliant, colorful fireballs exploded in mid-air.
When the dragon group's fireballs exploded, they could form a short burst of fire rain. With the dragon group clearing the way, the Winter Wolf Army also began to surge forward.
This was a path destined for death, because the tide and sea of wights were too vast.
Rhaegar cleared the way with dragonflame, followed closely by the Winter Wolf Army, though some Winter Wolf soldiers succumbed to the waves of wights or unexpected battlefield factors. Either their bodies couldn't hold up, or they encountered particularly difficult wights.
Finally, they reached the ice throne.
Twenty Others appeared around the ice throne.
"Boom!" The Silver Dragon spewed forth surging gold and silver flames, relentlessly bombarding the blue profound ice throne. The temperature of the Silver Dragon's flames had been raised, especially since these flames contained the trembling of magic and will.
The blue profound ice throne actually began to melt slightly.
The Others let out shrill screams. The Direwolf Suicide Squad plugged their ears and watched the Others' direction, but the Others were still too fast and too powerful; the warriors would be killed by the Others with just a moment of carelessness.
There were also brave and reckless warriors who risked death to plunge dragonglass into an Other's body, dissolving the Other into a puddle of steam.
"Run!" Mormont turned his body, blocking the Other's sword edge. Eddard dodged the strike, but Mormont was pierced by the Other's blade.
"Keep going, keep fighting!"
"Aaaah!!!" Eddard picked up Mormont's Bear Claw, and with all his strength, plunged it into the Other's body, turning the Other into steam.
"Boom!" Fireballs in the sky began to light up, and a magnificent fire rain bombarded the profound ice throne.
The Winter Wolf Army below lit fires and threw flammable and explosive materials toward the throne while covering Rhaegar's actions.
Under the relentless fire bombardment, the profound ice throne melted by half, but it did not melt completely.
The dead limbs, which served as sacrifices and a magical formation, now twisted and stacked up, forming the shape of a person and beginning to pick up weapons and kill.
