Chapter 54 - Chapter 54.

"Yes, yes. All right, you've convinced me. I give up and will carry out your orders, ma'am." I snorted, imitating Vector's voice as he addressed Lupo.

With a sad sigh, I got up and went to search the room. Well, the shell casings and corpses don't count. I'm not going to collect the weapons yet either; I have enough, and no matter how strong and tireless Yamata is now, she simply won't be able to carry the rest—there's nowhere to put it. I carefully examined two tanks with green liquid, broken from the inside. Hmm. There are exactly the same ones upstairs. Apparently, that's where the Hunters were floating.

"Hey, Four Eyes. Did you collect samples of the solution from under the Hunters?" I called over my shoulder.

"Yes!" I received an irritated reply. Okay, okay, I'll be quiet and not distract her.

I continued my inspection. Okay, I really don't like this steel container—or the fact that the steel door is bent from the inside. Oh, I don't like this at all. It's good that it's empty now; otherwise, it would be really sad.

"What are you stuck there for? I'm done!" Yamata said cheerfully.

"Well, I'm looking. I'd even say admiring. Come here and help me—I don't know the scientists' markings," I said, examining the container's labels.

Yamata came over and somehow immediately turned pale—though, it would seem, how could she turn pale when she was already as white as chalk? Hmm, she's had her fill of blood too! Still, I didn't like my partner's reaction.

"It seems that Type-103 Tyrants were brought here from the factory for some reason," she said.

Damn it! I shouldn't have mentioned the Tyrant back then, because it turns out I'm very "eyes-on." I jinxed it! Okay, maybe we won't run into it after all.

"We've seen enough. Let's move on. There's nothing else interesting in this room," I said.

"What about the weapons?" Yamata glanced meaningfully at the guns I hadn't collected, scattered across the first floor.

"I don't need them, and you have enough. If anything, we can always come back. Fortunately, the way back will be cleared after we move forward," I shrugged.

"Tsk, okay." Four Eyes didn't argue, realizing perfectly well that she had nowhere to hang them, and that I wouldn't take such a step either, since it would reduce my mobility.

Half a minute later, we were standing in front of a monumental door blocking the compartment. And it really was monumental, apparently designed to contain biological threats. Heh. Well, it certainly hadn't done its job. But the size of the door itself—it was exactly two stories high, wide enough for a couple of Nemeses to walk through side by side (spit, you fool, or you'll jinx it and Umbrella create a second one). So the dimensions were impressive.

While Yamata was fiddling with the combination lock, I tried to figure out how—how!—Birkin, being a mutant, was able to get through this door, and why there wasn't a single scratch on it. What nonsense! Maybe it has some kind of visual recognition system, since he should still be quite recognizable in his first form. And in his second form, he wouldn't even care about this barrier. I won't even mention the subsequent ones. Or did I just miss a hole somewhere? I really hope it's the latter.

Finally, Yamata stopped fiddling with the door, and it began to slide open. It revealed a large corridor with a high ceiling and… a Tyrant on the other side, about three hundred meters away from us. Four Eyes and I exchanged glances, and she calmly typed the combination into the electronic lock again, ignoring the slowly approaching T-003. We watched the doors close in same silence and then, without saying a word, turned back. An amazing display of teamwork!

"Where to now?" Yamata glanced at me, breaking the spell of the moment.

"Same place. But first, I'll teach you how to climb walls— and do it in a way that keeps your momentum up while still moving properly with your weapon. You're not leaving all this stuff here, are you?" I asked hopefully at the end.

A negative nod was my answer. Too bad—it would have made my task much easier.

"Don't you want to fight him? Now you definitely have a chance, at least against this creature. Against Nemesis, sure, we'd have to run away."

"No. We don't need that, and there's no point in taking unnecessary risks. The ceiling in that corridor is high enough that this creature can't reach us. So now someone's going to get a crash the "combat cockroach" training course." I spread into a smile of eager anticipation.
