Chapter 29 - Chapter 29 - Time Shift

The man realized he had made a mistake—leaking unnecessary intelligence to the target during a mission.

Logically speaking, since the target escaped from the employer's research institute, it was obvious that the institute must have hired "Hunter" to capture him.

This was self-evident and couldn't be counted as highly sensitive information.

Therefore, the man didn't think it was particularly important. Under Lin Wuming's interrogation, he subconsciously wanted to say something to appease him, which was why he responded with, "It's the research institute you used to be at."

The result was that Lin Wuming detected the crucial information—he knew about the institute.

Without giving him time to hesitate, Lin Wuming broke his other arm.

Amidst the screams, the man hurriedly confessed: "It's 'Black Moon,' the 'Black Moon' Research Institute! On the surface, it's a legal and legitimate research facility, but that's just a shell. Their real core project, the 'Dark May' plan, is a completely illegal experiment, and you escaped from there!"

"A legal institute? Good that it's legal." Lin Wuming nodded. This shell of a legal institution was both their cover and their vulnerability.

If he couldn't find the "Dark May" project team, surely he could find the "Black Moon Research Institute"?

Lin Wuming, of course, knew about the "Dark May" plan: the scheme to input Accelerator's personal reality information into a test subject's brain, attempting to use the strongest Esper's thought patterns to enhance the subject's personal reality, thereby achieving an increase in ability level.

It could be said that the ultimate goal of this project was to replicate another Accelerator.

Lin Wuming hadn't realized that he, or rather, the former "No. 007," was a victim of this project.

Then he thought of Kinuhata Saiai and Hamazura Shiage, the survivors of the "Dark May" plan and the culmination of the entire project—Level 4 Great-Level Espers.

He wondered if they had reached Level 4 by this time. If they were the ones sent to attack him... Lin Wuming wasn't sure he could defeat them.

"Who are you people?" Lin Wuming asked again. "Anbu?"

An organization daring to act so recklessly in Academy City seemed only to fit the description of one of the city's characteristic features—"Anbu organizations."

"Yes, we are Anbu."

Lin Wuming sighed, "Don't talk nonsense. I want more specific information."

Saying this, he prepared to break the man's left leg next.

Feeling the sudden increase in force on his left leg, the man quickly shouted, "Wait, wait, I'll talk! We are Hunter..."

A sudden bullet interrupted his next words.

Right before Lin Wuming's eyes, the man who was about to reveal his organization's information was shot in the head.

Lin Wuming only managed to raise a psychic barrier in time to block the various... things splashing toward him.

The physiological sense of revulsion made him uncomfortable. He instinctively wanted to put distance between himself and the headless corpse.

Then, Lin Wuming realized—the sniper's position had changed!

The original building shouldn't have been able to shoot directly behind the flowerbed.

The sniper had either moved his position while Lin Wuming was interrogating, or there was a second sniper.

In any case, it was not a good situation for Lin Wuming.

Just then, a muffled "pop" suddenly sounded.

Lin Wuming looked toward the sound and saw a cylindrical object flying out from the corner of a nearby street.

"Bullet Time" didn't trigger. The cylinder exploded at the apex of its parabola, deploying a huge net that fell over Lin Wuming.

Lin Wuming tried to push it away with his psychic ability, but the net had excellent elasticity, dispersing the force applied to it through the deformation of the netting ropes.

And it wasn't just one net. Similar capture nets were being thrown from different corners all around him.

Even if Lin Wuming forcibly tore one or two nets with his psychic power, it wouldn't matter. He would ultimately be tightly entangled by these nets.

The enemies had clearly learned their lesson and didn't appear in Lin Wuming's line of sight, denying him the opportunity to attack.

Non-lethal attacks were precisely the best way to counter Lin Wuming's "Bullet Time."

Lin Wuming couldn't afford to worry too much. He flipped up, leaping into the air, using his psychic power to boost himself forward, almost "flying" close to the ground.

His target was the source of the first capture net—in that instant, he had only managed to clearly see the trajectory of that parabola, allowing him to deduce the enemy's position.

With an enemy finally close by, Lin Wuming couldn't let the chance slip.

The man, who hadn't even had time to put away the launcher, widened his eyes in surprise when he saw Lin Wuming appear before him.

He had never imagined that the prey, who was about to fall into their trap seconds earlier, would suddenly appear right in front of him.

Seeing Lin Wuming's agile and rapid movements, where was the image of a "disabled person" with broken limbs?

Lin Wuming suppressed the throbbing pain in his hands, feet, and chest, glaring at the enemy with a taut face.

Despite the protection of his psychic ability and the fact that his actions were primarily driven by it, such reckless, strenuous activity still caused his wounds to flare up in spasms of pain.

His physical discomfort slowed his reaction by half a beat, but fortunately, the enemy's reaction was even slower—Lin Wuming's mobility had ultimately exceeded their expectations.

Not having time to switch the launcher in his hand to a more suitable combat weapon, the enemy could only throw the launcher at Lin Wuming, hoping to buy himself some time.

In a normal fight, this tactic often yielded some results. But Lin Wuming was a Psychic. He didn't even look at the flying launcher, instead catching it with his psychic power and throwing it back.

At the same time, more psychic blocks slammed toward the enemy.

Whoosh!

"Bullet Time." A bullet shot from Lin Wuming's left, 9 o'clock direction.

It was that persistent sniper!

Lin Wuming inwardly gasped, forced to divide his attention to deal with the deadly bullet that was already within ten meters.

Using the bullet's trajectory, Lin Wuming reverse-engineered the sniper's position.

This time, he used multiple layers of psychic barriers to completely dissipate the bullet's kinetic energy, then reversed its direction, re-accelerated it, and reflected it back in the direction it came from.

Whether it hit the enemy or not, it would at least strike a blow against his arrogance and prevent him from continuing to attack so recklessly.

With the crisis averted, the "Bullet Time" state also dissolved, and the flow of time instantly returned to normal.

The drastic change in subjective time made Lin Wuming feel dizzy, like a split personality, but the battle was not over. He endured the discomfort and quickly refocused his attention on the enemy in front of him.
