Chapter 11 - Chapter 11: Vengeance Contract

After his recent investigation, Guilliman discovered that Kogelgrim's soul state was quite complex.

Simply put, his soul had mostly dissipated, leaving only a fragment, the vast majority of which consisted of the resentment and unwillingness left from his tragic death, as well as a will for revenge against the Lord of White Orchard.

These stubborn negative spiritual powers, like rocks, enveloped his soul fragments, distorting the spirit within the soul and turning it into a wraith-like existence.

While not indestructible, once these negative wills were worn away, what would remain would only be useless soul dregs, not even valuable enough to extract soul power from.

Guilliman was unwilling to do this.

This was not out of sympathy, but because Kogelgrim was the first, and possibly the only, Witcher's soul he had encountered in a short time.

In his premonition, to obtain the Witcher knowledge and techniques contained within this soul, even at the cost of spiritual injury, it would be worth it.

As a perfect Witcher created by the system, as long as he completed these Witcher sword techniques, monster knowledge, and instant Sign casting, he would be able to possess strength comparable to a seasoned Witcher in a very short time, which was something he desperately needed now.

Thus, despite knowing it would be difficult, Guilliman still attempted to communicate with Kogelgrim's soul on a spiritual level, to see if there was another solution to this matter.

Soul communication was something he couldn't do in reality, but in his soul space, there was a possibility of success.

After some attempts, the result was surprisingly smooth.

Although Kogelgrim's remnant soul could not communicate with words, after deep communication on the soul level, Guilliman came to a conclusion.

As long as the murderer who killed this School of the Viper Witcher, the current Lord of White Orchard, Ignatius Verileth, died a miserable death, Kogelgrim's resentment and hatred would naturally dissipate, no longer hindering his absorption of this remnant soul.

He would then be able to obtain the knowledge within by absorbing this soul fragment at a relatively small cost.

Perhaps this was also why, a few years later, when the White Wolf Geralt entered the noble crypt, he did not see the wraith of this Witcher.

Because by then, that foolish Lord of White Orchard had long been sent to the gallows and hanged by the strict Nilfgaardian soldiers... Avenge Kogelgrim and then obtain his knowledge inheritance?

Guilliman, who had rested for a while, nodded thoughtfully.

This was an unexpected development.

However, he had no intention of being conflicted or troubled by the matter of killing for revenge.

In Guilliman's eyes, the nobles of this era, with the exception of a very few with higher moral standards, were all nothing more than bedbugs sucking the marrow from the common people.

So-called privileges and bloodlines were nothing in the face of power.

Even killing them all would be a benevolent act of ridding the people of harm and making the world a better place.

Since this former colleague had such a dying wish, then he would fulfill it, avenge him, and then obtain his inheritance; it was a mutually beneficial arrangement, and nothing could be better.

Having made his decision, Guilliman stood up, looking with some disgust at the rotting flesh and corpse fluid clinging to him.

However, he was not in a hurry to leave; instead, he picked up the School of the Viper Witcher medallion hanging on Kogelgrim's corpse and put it into his storage space, planning to clean it and use it himself.

As a fake Witcher, both school equipment and Witcher medallions could only be acquired by himself.

It was rare to encounter a ready-made one, so why would he let it go?

Subsequently, he also found the blueprint for the Witcher's Viper Steel Sword, two Witcher potions, and some other miscellaneous items from the corpse's pocket.

Unfortunately, Kogelgrim was also a pauper; he had no money at all, and his leather armor and other equipment were also worthless.

Besides these, the Witcher's silver sword, which should have been with him, was probably picked up by others, which greatly disappointed Guilliman.

He had originally thought he might be able to snag a Witcher's silver sword for free.

After tidying up Kogelgrim's relics, Guilliman's gaze turned to the noble sarcophagi in the crypt, an expectant expression on his face.

He had already come this far.

And he would also have to kill the only remaining member of their family later.

Since the grudge had already been formed, these noble lords probably wouldn't mind supporting a poor Witcher like him… In the following days.

The Witcher's actions were not noticed by anyone; it was likely that no one could have imagined that the lord's cemetery had been robbed in broad daylight.

And by a super thief with a storage space, capable of silently moving large amounts of items, leaving nothing valuable behind.

Roughly estimated, the burial goods of the Verileth family's ancestors were probably worth around twelve hundred Orens.

Enough for him to buy a good horse and forge a set of excellent equipment in Vizima.

Moreover, because the haunting of the noble crypt was common knowledge throughout the territory, no commoner afraid of death dared to explore it.

As long as he didn't proactively announce it, it was unlikely anyone would discover this matter anytime soon.

Without this concern, Guilliman was in high spirits; he completed other Witcher contracts in White Orchard while discreetly inquiring about the Lord of White Orchard's whereabouts using his own methods, preparing for Kogelgrim's revenge contract.

The herbalist Tomira was a beautiful woman in her early twenties; she had once been a nun at the Temple of Melitele, but later, after falling in love with a man and eloping, she was expelled from the temple and now served as White Orchard's herbalist.

The contract she gave Guilliman was to clear the drowners by the river, to prevent the increasingly rampant drowners from interfering with the villagers' lives.

This was a fairly ordinary Witcher contract, with a meager reward of only thirty Orens; most Witchers had done this kind of work.

Of course, this was not a reward paid by Tomira alone, but funds she raised among the villagers using her reputation as an herbalist.

This kind of drowner-clearing task was second nature to Guilliman; since coming to this world, the monster he had killed the most was drowners.

In less than a morning, he had eliminated a dozen drowners by the river, earning considerable praise from the villagers.

Most of the time was wasted searching for drowners; the price for killing one drowner was less than two Orens.

The dwarf blacksmith Willis's contract, on the other hand, was to protect him on a trip to a mine to excavate some rather rare ores.

The enemies encountered were Nekkers, skilled at digging tunnels in the ground.

This task was quite time-consuming, requiring full-time escort and protection of the dwarf blacksmith, but for the sake of money, Guilliman did not refuse.

Just like that, by the end of the day, through hunting monsters, he gained over twenty more soul power points, bringing his total soul power to one hundred and twenty-five points, making up for his previous losses.

Unfortunately, the herbalist Tomira did not seem to be attracted to him, the handsome Witcher.

After the task was completed, nothing enjoyable happened between them, and the process of soul sublimation remained a distant prospect.

In his spare time, Guilliman, based on the information in Kogelgrim's letter to the Grandmaster of the School of the Viper, successfully found the School of the Viper armor and the blueprint for the Viper silver sword that he had hidden.

These were his relics, hidden in the ruins of Amavet Fortress before he was captured by the Lord of White Orchard.

Because they were hidden so secretly, they had been preserved until now.
